Any preferences / opinions about breastfeeding positions?

I am just wondering if anyone has any preferences about breastfeeding positions. My daughter & I seem to prefer the cross-cradle hold where her head is in my hand rather than the traditional cradle hole where her head is in the crink of my elbow. I am using a nursing pillow so she doesn't need much support because she lays on that. My daughter is 3 months old now. Sometimes I have a hard time getting her to eat properly when we use the traditional cradle hold. But is there anything wrong with continuing to use the cross-cradle hold?

I love the side-lying position, both for getting baby to sleep for naps/night as well as co-sleeping or just when I need to rest. It took me a while to get it with my first as I just wasn't comfortable doing it, but once I got it it was great! With my second, we starting it in the hospital :-)

Whatever position works best for you both is good. Just make sure she's still latching correctly - tummy should always be facing your tummy and hips should be in line with her shoulders and tummy (not turned out). I've found that when I got too relaxed about positioning, I started get sore because baby started getting lax about his/her latch.

Love the side lying position, and the cradle hold!

I still do the cross cradle hold and my son is 10 months old now!! I wanted to lay down and nurse sooo badly, but my son just wouldn't let me do it.  He also did the football hold on one side, but not the other!! I still use a nursing pillow if it's around.

my daughter prefers that position on the left, but football hold on the right. when i tried the cross-cradle hold on the right, she refused to eat.

Whatever works for you is great! My son wouldn't nurse in any position but the football hold (which my husband and I referred to as Heisman :)) until he got too big and then we switched to the traditional cradle hold. My daughter wanted nothing to do with the Heisman - she was a traditional hold all the way. So if you've found something that works, rock on! :)

Do what works for you. With my first it was easier for me to lay down and have him lay beside me as he fed. I am now nursing my fourth and we do the cradle hold with no nursing pillow.
