I weaned my first baby to a bottle at 10 months. My second baby wants nothing to do with a bottle so I am considering weaning to a sippy cup/cup bypassing the whole bottle ordeal. Any thoughts??

I nursed my son exclusively and the first bottle he ever had, oddly enough was at 18 months when a friend of mine's daughter started staying here, and because SHE takes a bottle, HE wants a bottle, lol. To keep him from stealing hers I had to give him one, but he doesn't really drink from it, he just sort of chews on it for a while...

Anyway, he loves his sippy cups, and I never had any problems. I still nurse him in the evenings, and sometimes if he hurts himself or is fussy. he'll be 2 in july. I've slowly been nursing him less and less. I don't remember exactly when I introduced sippy cups, maybe 9 months or so? But even up until he was a year or so he still nursed pretty frequently.

Just my experience. :)

My daugther likes the sippy cup better than a bottle. I just started giving her a little bit of water in the cup at meal times- I got one of the ones that has the soft top like a nipple, not the hard plastic ones. I figured that would be better because it's still more like a breast. I think Nuby and Munchkin make the ones with the soft top. It took her a while to learn to tip it back but I would have her grab the cup and lift her elbows up for her so she knew she had to tilt the cup to drink out of it. I think it's better to just go straight to a sippy cup so that way they don't have something else to get attached to.

As long as baby is ready to wean, I cant see how it could be a problem.

Why are you weaning so early? The longer the baby nurses the better. I think you should keep nursing and feeding the baby table food at meal times. A sippy cup during the day with snacks. My daughter only nurses a nap times and during the night. At meal times she has a sippy cup. Your baby is real young. He/she still needs that comfort of nursing. If not nursing, then you have to go to a bottle. Your baby is too young to go without some sort of source of comfort.

I just started using a sippy cup with my 9 month old, It took a while to find one he liked. He won't use the ones that you have to suck with. But it is causing some problems with nursing. He doesn't want to wait for the let down anymore. I trick him when he is sleepy with the pacifier and switch it after he's almost asleep. My first son took a bottle at 10 months and my twins went right to the sippy cup at a year. Just make sure you are ready to wean, because the baby might not want to nurse, like mine. I hope I was able to help:)
