Are there any negative affects, other than the maple syrup smell, to taking fenugreek? Is it safe?

I continue to take Fenugreek (my daughter is 7 months old) daily and have had no ill effects. Many of the breastfeeding moms I know do, with varying degrees of effectiveness. I do hear frequently it takes at least 2 capsules at least twice a day to have much effect for most people.

I had to take fenugreek to get my supply up and I didn't have anything happen, even the maple syrup.

I've taken fenugreek as well. It is recommended in "The Nursing Mother's Companion," a very reputable book.

HECK NO!! It's an awesome herb that allowed me to breastfeed. I had a reduction and had to take 16 pills of Fenugreek per day.

The only thing it warns you about is that it can lower your blood sugar.

Fenugreek is safe, very safe. I took it with my first born. He was very sick and I didn't want anything to affect my supply. But with fenugreek, in order to notice a difference in your supply, you have to take like 2-3 pills 2-3 times a day. I was only taking 1 and didn't notice anything until my girlfriend (who is mom to twins and took it) told me I had to take a lot to notice a difference. Good luck!
