Baby Acne Cure?

We tried the Selsun Blue like someone else mentioned, and that cleared it up quickly. Of course you just have to be very careful to keep it away from baby's eyes.

Breast milk works for a lot of stuff including baby acne. Just put a little on the baby's face you will see it does work. My baby had acne for a few days. i had remembered that someone ese told me to use my milk and an by surprised it worked. they daid that it what god gave us breast for to feed and to heal. true story it works.

My son had this as well......my poor baby with his little pimples:( I wanted to pinch them I have a thing about pinching pimples but I refrained...lol....anyways they just went away. they are common in NB and young babies and in most cases will just go away after a few weeks! Like Rachel my son also had the calcium deposits they went away as well. Just wash with soap and water I'm sure BFing has nothing to do with it all babies can get baby acne...they can be born with it... do a little research on the internet and you will see!

my daughter broke out too about the same time. it cleared up on its own within a couple of weeks.

My son had this as well, and it went away all on it's own. I just made sure to keep the area clean, and dry. We didn't use any soap, just some warm water on a cloth. Within about a month it was completely gone, and then he got these tiny white "pimples" which are just calcium deposits. They too went away on their own! :)

I'm surprised you were told it had to do with breastfeeding. Almost all babies will develop neonatal acne at 4 weeks of age, give or take, and it goes away on its own. It does not have to do with the hormones in the milk; when a baby is born they still have some of the maternal hormones circulating, and over the first few weeks of life these levels go down causing the acne. It almost always resolves without intervention.

We went through the same thing with my son. His baby acne cleared up on its own after a few weeks. Sometimes the acne is brought on by your laundry detergant or even fabric softener. The dermatolgist I spoke to said that Free and clear products are better for babys skin than even the special baby detergants, due to the perfumes the detergants contain. I switched to Tide Free and his skin cleared up with in weeks. So not sure if it was the detergant or my hormones but non-the-less his skin is now acne free!

This will clear up on its own, all my kids had it for a few weeks. It is annoying to have your beautiful baby looking not so beautiful for a bit, but totally normal. By the way it is NOT due to breastfeeding, as bottle fed babies get the same thing. I would find a new pediatrician who is supportive of breastfeeding if I were you. She sounds like the kind of idiot who will blame everything on breastfeeding because she is a bottle feeder herself, or plans to be. I have run across these in my time myself. Had a doc once tell me my son (who was on antibiotics for a "pink ear" still kick myself for that one) was constipated "because he was breastfed" and I should give him bottles of water before every feeding. Luckily I wasn't stupid enough to buy that crap, (breastfed babies have LIQUID poop! ) and I turned to other moms for answers and found out that any baby who is put on stupid antibiotics that tiny gets terrible tummy upset. I stopped the meds and a within a few days he was fine again. Never went to that doctor again. A medical degree doesn't preclude being an idiot, unfortunately.

I would be a bit worried that your pediatrician went straight for such a hard core remedy! Steroids on a newborn?! For something cosmetic?????
My daughter had it and I just stopped washing her face with soap, just water now and she hasn't had a "breakout" since!
I would continue breastfeeding and drop the doc!

My daughter had a similar thing happen around 1 month or so. We figured out that if someone held her that washed their clothes in whatever detergent she would break out. We then decided to switch outselves to a detergent free of dyes and perfumes and were more careful about who held her, so maybe try that.

It will go away on it's own, but like Alisa said you can put breastmilk on it. That can help remove the redness. Also don't wash baby's face with soap, only water.

it usually clears up on its on. sometimes i would use a cotton ball in water on her face, just to keep it clean. i would also squirt some of my milk on it. Mommy milk is good for just about everything :-)

It's totally normal and like adult acne not much but time gets rid of it. Steroid cream is way over the top. It's just a cosmetic issue and it definately goes away on it's own

I used breastmilk and did not wash the area at all otherwise...it went away in a few days.

It's totally normal. My lil' guy had baby acne for about a month, and then he got cradle cap for about a month after that. Both went away on their own, and I'm still nursing (5+ months). When he was a newborn, I very lightly wiped his face with a warm washcloth (no soap) every morning and night, and it seemed to help a little bit, but it's really all about hormones. Your babe's complexion will be beautiful again in no time.

It's very common and nothing to be concerned about. Mostly it's just annoying because it normally happens when parents are wanting to Christen their baby and then they have a breakout and the photos aren't quite as nice as they might have been, lol. All 3 of my children have had it, my first baby had quite a severe case of it, my GP told me we could try, Selsun Blue OR Nizoryl 1% anti-dandruff shampoo. Sounds odd I know but it seriously works. Simply mix 1ml of the shampoo with 9ml of water and apply to the affected area with cotton wool making sure to avoid the eye area. Dispose of any unused portion. I applied it after bathtime, once daily.

i believe it is pretty common, both my sons had a bit of baby acne. i would put breast milk on the area and let it dry and that helps, cuz of the antibiotic properties in breast milk.

It will just go away on its own. My pediatrician said to just wash her face with a wet wash cloth every other day so it doesn't get too oily. She's still trying to get hormones out of her system from being in the womb too.
