My daughter is 6 months old and I am now only nursing her at night and once in the morning. (formula during the day) Formula was constapaiting her so I added pear or apple juice (per my doc). But now my doc said that i need to be feeding her baby food 3 times a day also! My daughter weighs 18 pounds and has gained a pound in the past 2 weeks so I know she is getting enough. My question is do you think I am okay with just feeding her baby food once a day? and how much longer can I do that? I just think formula, breast milk and baby food is too much for her system to handle!

There are definate benefits to delaying solids. It is more than okay to just do it once a day.

Wow, a pound in 2 weeks sounds just fine. Sounds like you (and baby) are doing well without adding baby food 3x day at 6mths. I exclusively breastfed the first 6 months, and now at 7mths my son is having homemade baby food about 2x day (no more than 1-2Tbsp). I have been watching my son as a guide to "how much" solids to offer...just what he is willing to take without interfering with his nursing. If your daughter wants more, offer more, if not then thats okay.

You need to do what works for the two of you. If you let others tell you how to parent you will go crazy. If your baby is hungry, she'll eat. If she is full, she won't. It's that simple. Let your BABY be your guide!

It is. She should be about 95% breastmilk right now.

my daughter is almost 7 months and eats 2-3 times a day- babyfood. She also supplements formula and breastfeeds. She gets bored with the bottle and loves to eat solids, its good to get them used to it, they need a break from the bottle more often! My daughter is 20lbs and i know lots of ppl whos babies are 6-7 months and their babies are 25lbs.. there is no right or wrong at this stage, formula and breastmilk for the first 6 months and after that is up to you. Theres so much that happenes in 0-6 mos and 6-12 mos, every baby is different. But you babys system needs to get used to other things other wise its going to be difficult for her to even want to TRY anything different let alone handle

I think you are fine with baby food only once a day! My son is almost 7 mo (next week) and he is breastfed and gets baby food 1x a day (at dinner). Our pediatrian said food 1x a day at 6-7 mo. 2x at 7-8mo and 3x a day at 9 mo. Food = cereal and some veggies or fruit - just a few spoonfuls, not a ton. He doesn't get any juice or water or anything else. Good luck!

My pediatrician said to start solids like baby cereal, stage 1 fruit, veggies, etc. at 4 months. Start with one food at a time. Most babies aren't satisfied with just breast milk or formula after 4 months anyway. I fed both my kids food at 4 months and didn't have any problems. You can get feeding charts from Gerber. It tells you what kinds of foods to give at each stage of development. Just don't give cow's milk or anything made with honey until after 12 months of age.
