I have been taking fenugreek to boost my milk supply, I have noticed that my 5 month old daughter has been spitting up pretty heavy lately. chunky curdled milk before and after a feeding. Any one else experience this? Or could it be something else?

Just thought, if she hasn't been a problem spitter from day 1 and this is new, then it could just be too much milk now or that she doesn't like the fenugreek that's in the milk. Try stopping and see what happens?

My daughter was the same and was diagnosed with reflux. She did not projectile vomit but did vomit all day long - sometimes right after she ate, sometimes hours later (curdled and gross). She was not medicated because she did gain weight and was thriving. I did try a few things like Oval, Gripe Water and Colic Calm but none of that helped. What did help a bit was burping her right after every feed (including the 4am ones - not fun when it wakes them up) and keeping her upright for 15 minutes after each feeding. I went online and researched effective ways to burp as she was a bad burper. She also sleeps on her side. That has all helped somewhat.

Oh, what I didn't mention yet is that she would also wake up randomly at night screaming in pain and was arching her head up and away from her body. I finally went to my chiropractor to ask her advice. She treated my acid reflux when I was pregnant so why not see if she can help the baby.

We have been seeing her for a month to treat the baby. They don't crack backs like they do with us, she feels her way up and down the back. Immediately my daughter went rigid in the back area that connects to the tummy. So, she simply did a light massage of the area and of her lower back area. We went 2x a week for 3 weeks and now just 1x a week. It has worked wonders... the screaming has all but gone away and the spitting up is not nearly as bad. It's still there, but not as much as it was (and the amount of spit up is less).

So, try what you can. If you see signs of pain, take her to the doc. I do know of someone who did have to medicate her child for 8 months to control her reflux but now she's a thriving 2 year old who is unmedicated and can eat all food groups.

PS. Make sure it's not a milk allergy (that can cause constant spit up too).

Both of my babies spit up, my first the whole entire first year! When we started solids, the spit up just turned colors! Your pediatrician is the only one that can really address any real medical problems, but if you just want to know that you're not the only one dealing with spit up, I'm here to tell you you're not doing anything wrong and thank God it's breastmilk spit up and not formula, yuck!! Sounds like your increased milk supply is doing the trick ... your baby just loves your milk and drinks a lot of it, and with her immature digestive system that little flap that keeps food down just hasn't developed fully for her. My 5 month old still spits up. Matter of fact, a month ago I got really motivated about working off the baby fat (on me) and exercised a storm. I felt great, but if affected my milk supply. How did I know? She didn't sleep as great, and she didn't spit up hardly at all. I was celebrating at first until I realized that she was a little bit hungry, lol! So I just increased my caloric intake, didn't drop the exercise because it makes me feel energetic. So, for me, spitting up is a sign that my baby is eating enough. Oh another thing, breastmilk spit up can stain. Not as bad as formula, but I've experienced oily spots on clothes, and her clothes get yellowish around the chin ... I know breastfeeding advocates says it doesn't, but ... mine does!

most babies spit up alot! it may mean that they ate too much, or were just jiggled the wrong way.... it could be that baby swallows air when he is feeding n since the air has to come back up-out comes some milk with it...also remember that your babys digestive system isnt fully developed yet n thats also a reason for seeing alot of spit up. my precious baby spits up the same chuncky curldled milk too. however the only real reason to have any cause for concern is if it is coming out projectile. babies that have reflux, their spit comes out with force!! if its just sorta dribbling outta baby's mouth then its just spit up and no real need for concern. if this doesnt help n you need more peace of mind you can call your doc n im sure she will assure you this is normal.. hope this helps!!

My son never did projectile vomit.......not all babies have to do that to have acid reflux.....trust me!! I have acid reflux and did as a baby, and never projectile vomited,  my brother had it, and always projectile vomited....etc.   I am not discrediting you at all, just informing you that it doesnt have to be like that .....it also depends how much is comming out...if its just a bit of spit up then yes it is nothing to be concerned about!!!  but if you dont think they have much of what you fed them left its time to look into possibilities........but yes you are right alot of babies spit up alot and there is a huge difference between the two

ps not to scare you but try not to let her sleep on her back at all untill you find out it is not reflux.....because it is not controlable and laying down brings it up their throat...... and you might not know it ...but if the stomach acid is breathed in her lungs it can shut down her kidneys and you could lose your daughter....not to scare you just to make you aware......again good luck!

I had the same problem with my son.,,and it took me a long time to find the root of the problem. You might look into acid reflux in babies....My son did the same and was later diagnosed with this problem ......if you catch it early enough it can be prevented early....but if caught later .....it can be a problem for years to come because it can set your baby off certain foods for years with many problems with feeding.....trust me! its worth looking into....is she hard to burp? is her upper lip purple when u are done burping? if so she probably has more gas. babies with acid reflux are often more gaseous babies.. I see you are breast feeding and so she should be easy to burp and shouldn't spit up much at all!!

good luck !!

Alot of times this is because the baby may already be full, or may not be burped all the way, and while feeding again, tends to spit up.
