Baby Sunscreen

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

Can anyone recommend a good, safe, chemical-free sunscreen for a 4 month old? My doctor recommended Johnson's, but I can't find it anywhere! Most sunscreens say "6 months and older", which is why I called my doctor on this one - you cannot keep a child out of the sun 100%. Just not possible!

I have done some research and I know sunscreens made with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are the best (don't absorb into the skin but sit on top of the skin which forms a barrier against the sun), but I can't find anything I'm totally sold on. Suggestions would be great!

Quoting Caroline:

I don't like Aveeno Baby, I feel like it gets crumbly as I try to apply. We actually liked a brand called Baby Blanket that you can get at Babies R Us. We used it at 5 months last summer with no problems. One tip I have is to avoid putting it on baby's hands, as he or she may rub their eyes or face :(

Baby Blanket is great too. That is my 2nd fav if I can't get my Banana Boat Baby.

My first daughter was a March baby, just in time for boating season!! I have always used the Baby Banana Boat products. They work great. My 2nd daughter is now 8 months old and I use it on her. Do a test patch, behind the knee or the neck to make sure your baby's skin won't react. I've not had a problem. BTW...my kids have never had a sun burn or a tan.
