does anyone have any ideas on how to stop Robbie, 12mo, screaming through EVERY bath/shower/swim/getting wet? toys dont help, or does being in my arms. he cries for 30-60mins afterwards because it is so traumatic.

i will try a sponge bath, but he freaks out like you wouldnt believe if a drop of rain gets on him.

i have tried different times of day, and he is in the bathroom with me while i am getting it ready.

he has hated the bath since his very first bath.

thanks for the suggestions.

wow...i thought all kids loved water at that age! my son would stay in the bath forever if i let him and often times he is all wrinkled when he comes out!

however, he is afraid when the water comes on, so he is in another room with someone else while i am getting the bath ready. could that be robbie's issue?

suggestion: give him a sponge bath. first just standing on the floor. then slowly start giving him baths in the sink (with little water). Add more water every time u give him a bath. when he is able to tolerate being waist high, move him to the tub (maybe an infant one at first)

What if you tried playing with water through out the day? Put water in a bowl and let him play with it. Have you tried bathing him at a different time of the day? Maybe by night he's just too tired. Try after his nap when he's good and happy.

My youngest daughter was like that when she was really little. I used to fill the kitchen sink instead and have her sit on the edge with just her feet in. I just put a towel down for her to sit on and another towel around her so she didn't get cold. She seemed to like just kicking at the water. Then i just used a washcloth and wiped her down. She's 21 months and is fine with the bath now but still hates me washing her hair. lol It's still a scream fest when it comes down to that. I also found that actually being in the bath with her helped, I just put my hair up and hopped in with her and she would sit on my lap. Maybe check the water temp 2, I used to have a little duck with a thermometer on it to make sure the water was within the recommended baby temperature.

What about a sponge bath while standing on a towel in the bathroom? Obviously the goal is to get him back to being ok with taking a bath, but we don't want to force him and make it traumatic. In the mean time a wipe down would keep a little one clean- it's not like they need very frequent bathing anyways.

I remember my first going through a phase like that. I just wiped her down when she needed to get clean and within a couple of months she got over her fear of the tub- it just disappeared, no particular effort or doing on my part.
