My husband works a swing shift, leaving me as the only consistant parent to handle bedtime with our 4 year old daughter and 14 month old son. Little Girl has a strong bedtime routine in place, and up until now, I nursed Baby Boy while I read her stories and he typically dosed off at the same time. Now, however, nursing isn't working. He's becoming a challenge at night, and I'm having trouble establishing a routine for him because I also have Little Girl to put down. How do others handle two kids, one parent at night?

I'm in the same boat. I have a 2 year old and a 9 wk old. My 2 year old also has a set schedule so I've been working around that. She goes to bed at 9. I'm working on getting the baby on a feeding schedule so usually it's time for her nap then so I put her in the swing while I get my 2 yr old ready for bed, then I put her to bed. I don't put the little one to sleep until 10. If you can stagger their bedtimes, it's made my life easier.

what i do with my two kids when dads away is read them both a story at the same time then i put my oldest who is also 4 in her bed and tell her i will be right back and then i tak my baby put her in her crib sing her a song giver hert a kiss and then go back to my oldests room to sing her song and give her hugs and kisses. I found that it works to keep my oldest routine strong and even if baby fusses you can go back and sing another song or what ever you might have to do to calm them down. As long as it is consistant then your son will learn the routine. Hope i could help
