Hey ladies I just had my 6 weeks check up and was wondering if anyone noticed a decrease in their milk supply when they started the low dose birth control pill. I was told I could use spermacide if I was concerned about my milk production. I'm planning to breastfeed for a full year so I want to know what's best for birth control.

I have been taking a low dose progestrone only pill since my six week post partum visit, and at 7 months we are doing great. It never affected my milk production.

I haven't seen any decrease in milk supply on the pill. I don't think the OB's would give it to us if this was a true phenomenon. I also take Fenugreek to counteract any possible decrease in milk supply. I think it is an individual body thing, but don't worry about it and I am sure you will be fine.

I also had the Implanon inserted when my bub Xavier was 7 wks. He's now nearly 5 months. My milk supply is exactly how it should be, he continues to put on weight without a prob. My dr said the Implanon and mini pill were my 2 options, but the pill had to be taken at the same time every day to be effective, thats why I chose the implant, and I have no complaints!

I had the Implanon inserted at my 6 week postpartum check up. The doctor places it under the skin close to your bicep. I dont even think about it being there, it causes no pain, and it looks like a faint scar if you look real close. It is effective 3 years also.

My baby is over 6 months old now and we are still nursing without any problems with supply. =)

I started taking camila six weeks pp, and I did notice a decrease in my milk supply. As posted above, i eat a high calorie diet and drink a lot of water and I have noticed an increase but still lower than normal (but enough). I have one week left and I will not be taking it anymore. Haven't decided what I'm going to do yet!

I was advised by my OBGYN to get an IUD so I did. no problems so far and my milk production has not decreased one bit. my daughter is now 10 months old and i've had my IUD for almost 8 months now.

Im on a low dose of the pill and i did notice a decrease in my milk supply, to bring my milk supply back up i pumped after every feeding, ate calorie loaded foods, drank lots of water, and let baby use me as a pacifier a couple times a day. im almost back up to normal but i got formula for her for when she didnt get enough from me so she didnt go hungry.

No sex for a year is cheaper! Ha ha. : ) I was concerned about milk supply so I just stuck with icky ole condoms. . . of course they are not quite as foolproof as the pill but, we don't a lot of alone time so I'm not sure which is more effective. My doc recommended Mirena (sp) over the pill. You'll have to ask yours why because I didn't ask. Ok, I was totally no help. I'm gonna stop typing!!! : )

I don't know if you may be using the mini-pill (progesterone only). What I can share is I had the Depo-Provera shot 7 weeks post-partum (which is preogeterone also, no estrogen) and within 3 days my supply diminished to almost nothing at all. The ob/gyn told me it was "safe" for my baby while breastfeeding which only meant it would not harm her. They never told me anything about the possibility of slowing/stopping lactation. I had to exhaust many avenues to re-establish my supply and am still working on it (now going on 4 weeks). I origionally was going to use Mirena but my insurance would not cover it. Personally I wish I opted for the mini-pill. If there were unpleasant side effects I could have just stopped taking it. Now I have to ride out a shaky supply until this darn shot wears off (no I will NEVER get it again.Did I mention it was my doctors idea in the first place? grrr). We are considering a diaphragm and spermacides....less complications I would think unless you are sensitive to them.
