If your child is breast fed and your nipples are cracked then your babe may be ingesting the blood from you. If not I would be a little worried and take her to the ped right away.

I would take them to the Dr as you don't want to risk anything getting worse if there is something wrong, plus also for peace of mind. My little girl has been breast fed for 8mths and has never had any blood in her stool. I wouldn't risk waiting any longer.

for one week now, I have been cutting out milk and dairy and monitoring that. Unfortunatley during the week, I have accidently taken some dairy products when "not thinking about it" so I am continuing the test to see. Initially, I was concerned about my little girl vomitting so frequently and emptying her stomach out...but she is gaining weight, and now THIS (the blood - twice so far. Once on Saturday and now today)
I have called the CLSC and will be checking in with the nutritionist again...(since I was not able to find a doctor for the 1st month check up...)

Ignore what I said - I've just seen your baby's a lot younger than mine. Go with Rebecca's post!

I just visited the lactation consultant today for some help with breastfeeding my third baby. She said that if the problems we had didn't resolve themselves in a couple of weeks there may be more serious issues. She said if he was still really fussy, gassy, and spit up a lot then he may have issues like acid reflux or a milk allergy. She said if he had blood in his stool that he may have an allergy to milk so I would have to monitor my dairy intake. She said they test the diaper by putting a couple of drops of a chemical on the stool sample and if it turns blue then it is positive for blood. She said sometimes you can't see the blood in the diaper. She also said that babies can grow out of this allergy if he is diagnosed with it. I would check with your pediatrician. How old is your baby?

My son's nappies have blood in them too. At first I thought it was just due to his stools changing as he consumed more solids, but it kept happening so I took him to see the doctor. We're being referred to a paediatrician 'just in case'. It's probably just a fissure, but it can't hurt to get your baby checked out. At the very least it'll put your mind at rest.

I would be calling the doctor just in case something serious is wrong. Better safe than sorry.
