Breast Pump Recommendations

I'm expecting my second baby and have been shopping around for a good breast pump. With my first child I was not able to exclusively breast feed due to low milk supply. I would like to try breastfeeding again with my second and I hope that a good pump would help. I had an AVENT pump with my first that I think was mediocre. I've been looking at the Medela Freestyle and Pump in Style Advanced, but some of the negative reviews I've read were bad enough to make me doubt.

Does anyone have comments or recommendations for a good breast pump, especially if you've had issues with milk supply?

I had a Medela Pump In Style, and would not recommend it for low supply!!! Some people might have good luck with it, but I had a problem with let-down and I don't think the Pump In Style felt very "natural". Also, I had a lot of problems with pain during pumping so again, I would not recommend this one!! Good luck! =)

I LOVE my Medela Pump in Style shoulder bag pump. I use it at work and it works wonderfully. I usually can get at least 2-3oz out of each breast with it.

well with my first I used the avent hand pump for over 15 mnths and so this time around I wanted a elect. pump I did lots of research and decided to get the Ameda purely yours pump because the milk does not interchange through the motor no possible mold growth( from what I have read) I am on 7 mnths and I get about 9 oz each pump session. used to be more before DD started eating baby food

I have struggled with low milk supply for some time now. I use the Medela Pump in Style at work. I can't let down nearly as much with the pump vs. actually breastfeeding. But, the pump is as efficient as it can be. Do remember that you can probably feed your baby more efficiently than you can pump. And read the low milk supply tips posted above in this forum.

Thanks for the comments, this is really helpful! I will give Medela and try and see how things go this time around. My new little one is due soon, so I'll hopefully be able to share some feedback for others as well after giving the pump a try.

You know,I had the Avent Isis IQ UNO and I actually thought it did well-I got between 5-8 oz per session depending on my stress level (!) and I thought it was comfy to use-not like the manual ones.

Granted I never used a hospital grade one,but I never needed to since I only worked part-time.

I LOVED my Medela Swing!!! It is a really great pump. I also had some supply issues with the first pump I tried and then I switched to Medela and it really helped. I was able to breastfeed my daughter exclusively for almost 10 months! Honestly I have no complaints about my Medela Pump (not sure what you read). Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I use a Medela too, and it is great. I have the electric double pump (get both breasts done at the same time), its so easy and quick to use and sterilise. (not to many parts)

I had a milk supply problem when my bub was 3mo,(now 7mo and breast feeding going great) i used this for 10min after each feed to stimulate my supply and i didnt get anything for the first 3 days and after the 4th day i got more and more milk.

Hope this helps

I love my pump. I have the Pump In Style® Advanced Shoulder Bag and I use it morning and night and I have more milk in the freezer than I know what to do with. My daughter will be well fed for quite sometime. I have not had supply issues so I can't comment on that. I waited and purchased my pump in the hospital after I had my daughter and they sold them for a lesser price then what the stores sell them for. Good luck.

I havent' had any supply issues but I do recommend Medela. I got one from a friend who got it from WIC. It's not the pump in style that you can buy in the stores but after comparing it to my previous pump, it's amazing.
