Please help. I am currently breastfeeding 15 month old twins. Within the last few days, my nipples have gotten pink/red, kind of shiny and it appears they are starting to peel. (and no, they have never been exposed to sunlight to get a sunburn! lol) Nursing my girls is bringing me to tears it hurts sooo bad. This morning I see one nipple has a couple of cracks in the area where the peeling skin is the worst. It hurts the worst when I'm nursing and right after, but they hurt 24/7 regardless.

What is this?! I have had clogged ducts, I have had mastitis, I even had thrush (although I had no symptoms, my daughters showed all the signs). It hurts so bad I'm considering quitting nursing even though I really wanted to make it to 2 years with these 2.

Any ideas what this is, what i can do? My doctor *just* moved and my new doctor knows squat about breastfeeding. :(

I'm not sure what the problem might be, but I second the lanolin. It may at least help you out enough to keep going until you get to the root of the problem.

This could be thrush. Did you try lanolin? I had the same problem and gently wiped my nipples before and after nursing with a warm washcloth and applied Nystatin ointment and lanolin. Went away after a couple days. Neever did figure out what it was - after extensive searching online I thought it was thrush although I'm not so sure now.

I've been bitten in the past, and had bite marks from it, and it's nothing compared to this. They havn't bitten me in MONTHS, so I really don't think it's that.

Have your girls bitten you, that could be why you are in so much pain.
