How often does your 12+ month old nurse/eat. I try and nurse before I offer meals and then offer solid food a little later. I just want to make sure he getting what he needs. He usually nurses:
morning - one side
breaskfast solids, pancake and fruit
mid-morning nurse - one side
snack solids, dried fruit or cheerios
nap nurse - one, maybe too sides
after nap nurse - one side
snack solids - fruit or veggie finger food
before dinner nurse - one side
dinner solids - bits of whatever we are having - no meat yet.
nurse bed - both sides
nurses 2-3 times a night

I am also nursing a 12 month old. The nursing gymnastics are a bit funny at times! My daughters schedule is as follows (we are not weaning this is all dictated by her):

Nurse 6:45 (when she gets up)

Breakfast 7:45 or 8am- grain, dairy and fruit with a sippy cup of water

Snack- 2 of either grain, dairy or fruit with sippy of water

Nurse mid-morning

Lunch- Protein, grain, dairy, veggie with a sippy of water

Snack- 2 of either grain, dairy or fruit with sippy of water

Late afternoon Nursing

Dinner- Protein, Dairy, Grain Veggie with sippy of water

Sometimes she nurses after dinner/ before bed but not always

I give her water because I think it's important for her to stay hydrated and to get into the habit of drinking water because as she gets older it's important to me that she not drink juice or milk. I firmly believe that there is no reason for humans to drink cows milk and soy milk doesn't have enough fat in it for little growing bodies. I also will not give her juice because of the sugar content. As far as giving your little one "enough" breastmilk the recommendation as long as your infant is relying on it for a large portion of nutrients is to nurse at least 2-3 times a day. That is not to say that you should only nurse 2-3 times it a day you should still be feeding on demand. At this stage your infant should be eating quite a bit of table food while making the transition to getting most of his nutrients from solids. That is again not saying he should not be nursing its just the healthy transition that is made in a human diet. Breastfeeding is about comfort and love just as much as nutrients. You are doing a wonderful job. Let him eat a wide variety of solids by feeding himself and he will get plenty as long as you breastfeed on demand. Keep up the great work! A breastfed baby is a happy baby!!

Is there a reason why you're holding off on meat? The newest recomendatons I heard were to offer meat from 6 months, sicne the iron in meat is much easier absorbed than that in fortified cereals and such.

My kids were eating and nursing about the same as what you are discribing here (only difference is they both ate meat) at 12-13 months or so (trying to remember, since the youngest is 2.5 now), and I don't see any problems with it. They both were feeding themselves and eating pretty much the same things we were eating at that age as well.

If he seems to want more nursing, more soilds, or a drink of water here and there, I'd say follow his lead.
