I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who has modified their diet for a baby with a dairy and soy allergy. So far I haven't had any dairy (whey or otherwise) for three weeks and just last week found small traces of blood in our babies stool. I am now eliminating soy because the doctor suspects an allergy, and going on day 5 of doing so...still seeing traces of blood, and was wondering how long it took some of you to get everything out of your system?

We are doing the same thing. It took about 3-4 days for the blood to stop and about two more weeks for the diarrhea. You have to know that even after you stop completely, and I agree with Heather there are A LOT of hidden milk proteins in foods so do your research, your body and milk will still have milk proteins in them for seven days. We gave our baby vegetable based, baby probiotics to help re-grow her GI tract bacteria after so much diarrhea. That really helped, but talk to someone at the supplement store about the right dosage for your child. Best of luck. I know it's a huge change!

Oh, and he is just turning 6 weeks. The initial symptoms were pretty much collic-like in the evenings and discomfort during the day during some feedings. We haven't seen blood in the stool with every diaper...probably about 6 diapers in five days...3-4 small specks like a grain of sand or even smaller

Thank you. The blood is scary, but it is in such small amounts that it could probably go unnoticed. The doctor told us to watch and make sure there arent large amounts. We suspect dairy allergy because Dad was allergic to soy and dairy as a baby also. Hopefully that is what it is and we can continue to work on fixing it. I'm keeping a close eye on my little guy!

I BF with a dairy allergy baby, but she could have soy, thankfully. I really dont remember how long it took to get rid of all the dairy out of my system, a few days for sure, I didnt eat/drink much to begin with though, and her symptoms were different they you're LO's, much less severe. No blood in the stools. Have you checked everything you'v been eating? There is soy and milk products in so many things that you wouldnt even think off. Maybe read the ingredients on everything and see if you're accidently eating something you shouldnt be? I hope you figure out whats going on.

First of all, how old is your baby? How do you know it's an allergy? What were the initial symptoms? I would be alarmed at seeing blood in my baby's stool for 5 days!! This may not be an allergy issue!
