I have BF my daughter since birth. She weighted 8.8 pounds at birth and she only weighs about 16 pounds now and she is TEN MONTHS. I have never given her formula and she does eat solids and juice. She is still BF but I just dont think she is getting enough cuz she dont nurse as long any more and she is not gaining much weight. My first daughter had no problem gaining weight but I didnt BF her. I am getting a little worried about her. Anything I should be doing or maybe I am just paranoid.

My son is almost 10 mo and EBF. he is 20lbs and holding steady because he is busy crawling and trying to walk. He is chubby and healthy. Your baby sounds to be average for EBF.

I'm assuming this is because a doctor compared her weight to his charts? Those charts were created from formula-fed babies. Breastfeeding is the norm.

Your milk is more caloric than most solids. The recommendation for increasing weight gain in a baby is to decrease solid intake and increase nursing sessions.

Regarding the short sessions- she's older, stronger, and more efficient at extracting your milk. This is normal.

Mother of two girls, both of whom weighed 17lb at 12 months. One is now four and weighs 30, the other 20 months and weighs 20lb.

My two kids are really tiny too ...my son is three and a half and 27 lbs and my daughter is 16 months and 19 lbs ...I worried with my son ( he was preemie) but not with my daughter..they are both very active, eat well (but not a lot ) and are healthy...and both still breastfeeding!
You could always take a trip to the doctor if you are worried but there is probably nothing wrong...

As she gets older and more mobile, she's going to be preoccupied with all the newfound moving. And some babies are just small. Formula fed babies do tend to weigh more, but that's not always a good thing. Breastfed babies are less likely to be overweight later in life as they will stop eating when they are full instead of overeating. If she's still peeing, pooping, and she's happy, and alert, then she's just fine.
Also when babies eat solids, that does fill their tummies up, BUT is less nutrient dense than breastmilk is so she's not going to gain as rapidly. A) she's not eating as much b/c she's busier playing B) she's burning it all up with all the new moving & C) breastmilk does have fat in it, where fruits, veggies, cereals don't. One thing you can do, if not already is use breastmilk to mix with her cereals, or thin out the fruits & veggies if they need it.

I wouldnt worry. The other posts are correct, babies slow their growth after 6 months. As they get older, bubs get very efficient at emptying the breast, my son is one year and only spends a few minutes on each side. He weighs 19 pounds as is happy, healthy and active.

She's probably perfectly fine. I agree with the above.. babies' growth slows down after 6 months. It's pretty normal for 10-month-olds to be very fast nursers. Doesn't mean she's not getting enough. As long as she seems satisfied, you're doing fine.
