I know this sounds like a weird question but here goes -
I have managed to feed my daughter for 4 weeks now, I never thought i would be sucessful at it but it is getting a lot more comfortable now. But I have to ask if anyone can relate to this- sometimes my nipple has a big dent in it from where she has been feeding, and although it doesn't hurt, it make me cringe a bit as I don't know if it's normal or if my boobs are getting damaged!

Thanks for your comments, I actually mean the aereola has a dent, cheers for pointing out the difference Lisa I wasn't very specific! Yes when the latch on has been wrong I have experienced a flattened nipple, but this was also really painful. The nipple itself is fine, but the area around seems a bit weird - I will ask the health visitor when I next see her but that's not for a while.

Sometimes mine are funny shaped after she nurses. When I took a breastfeeding class before my baby was born she told us that if your nipple is flat or strange looking, especially at the bottom, then the latch may not be right. The hospital you delivered at should have a lactation consultant. You may want to go in and have her look at your latch to make sure it's right. Hope this helps!

Lol...well, if it's not hurting, and she's getting plenty of milk and effectively removing it from your breast I'd say you're perfectly fine.

I am pretty sure it is her upper gums making the mark, can't think of a way of avoiding it happening and it doesn't hurt (touch wood!) Was just curious to see if it was just me or if this is common with breastfeeding. Think it is just me!

Hmmm...the aereola under the nipple? Maybe her tonuge isn't over her bottom gums and they are pressing up into the aereola? Although, mine personally can't hold a specific shape like a nipple can.

The latch is not right. If your nipple looks any different other than extended your little one needs a better latch. Try repositioning her.

Yep, I agree that you need to make sure that she's latching on properly. There shouldn't be dents or irregularities in the shape of the nipple. That can signifiy an improper latch (ie. 'lipstick'-shaped nipple).

Do you mean your actual nipple has a dent, or the aereola around it has a dent?
