Breastfeeding- When does food replace breast milk? Weening process?

My son is 6 months and I plan on breastfeeding until he is 1 (if it starts getting weird, or he starts biting I am going to pump and just give it to him that way).



My question is when does baby food replace a breast feeding and when do they start weening off? I already noticed that in the morning, he doesnt usually want to breast feed before I go to work, which he used to do.



I have not started on baby food yet, just rice cereal at nice mixed with 1-2 ounces of breast milk.

hey there. i breastfed my daughter until i had my son. she was 19 months old when my son was born. Mind you i was onl;y nursing her overnight at that point. Once when she went to bed and in the middle of the night if she needed it. She weaned because i had my son, who is now 5 months old. I didn't start her on rice cereal until 6 months and from there we worked to baby food and by about 12 months she was eating meals with us...i plan to do the same with my son.
i had the luxury of nursing her as long as i could and i hope you do to, it is so good for them :)

I was told the same thing. That solid foods should not replace breastmilk, but I started giving my child rice cereal at 4 months and worked her up to eating veggies and fruits wether mushed or finely cut up by 6 months. By eight months she was eating meals when we did, but still nursing afterwards. She was also drinking water out of sippy cups at 7 months ( I couldn't get her to take breastmilk in one).

Solids shouldn't replace any nursing sessions until at least 12 months.
