I have a 12 month old son that is currently breastfeeding and I had planned on breastfeeding him until he turns two. However, my husband and I just found out that I am expecting again. My doctor told me that I have to stop breastfeeding ASAP because breast feeing causes the uterus to contract and could cause a miscarriage. That was extremely disappointing news for me because my son LOVES to breastfeed and I really wanted him to reap the benefits of breastfeeding past one. Has anyone ever breast fead their child while pregnant or heard of possible miscarriage? Please let me know!!

It is perfectly fine to continue breastfeeding during normal healthy pregnancy. I reccomend the book adventures in tandem breastfeeding...or something along this line

In a healthy normal pregnancy you can continue to breastfeed your older baby throughout the entire pregnancy.

There's a really good book by Hillary Flowers called Adventures in Tandem Nursing. It gives all the most up to date info about nursing through your pregnancy, and then continuing on to nurse both children when the new baby is born.

Unless you have a medical condition that puts your pregnancy at risk anyhow, or a history of premature birth, you can quite safely continue to nurse your son.

You may notice more Braxton Hicks contractions during your 3rd trimester, but that does not mean you will go into labor early.

There's another thread in this group on this exact same subject.
