My son is almost 8 months old. He eats 1/2 to 1 purée for breakfast and sometimes for dinner, and a few baby snackies while we eat lunch (all after bf first). He still bf throughout the day and sometimes in the night. I pretty much just pay attention to his cues and feed him when he is hungry. I had crazy milk production in the beginning (seriously could have fed triplets no problem! but it seems like my production has slowed a little but still just enough for what he needs. HOWEVER, something came up and I need to go help my best friend move out of her appartment tomorrow and have been trying to pump all day without success. I can maybe get 2 ounces at the most (that's from both sides combined!) and I have a really nice $300 medella pump. (My little guy is a formula snob too). Will NOT take it, but has taken breast milk in a bottle.

Is it true pumping becomes less efficient as time goes on? (I have heard that). This is the first child I have breastfed.

Unfortunately it's not uncommon for pumps to not pull out much milk.
I think average pump output is something like 2 ounces! Some moms can pump a ton, some can't pump any!
But I think the best tip is to pump one breast while feeding baby on the other side. This way your hormone responses to the baby will help the pump work better.
Also I've heard pumping right after a warm shower can help let down more milk.
Otherwise I'd just say, it's quite normal to only get 2oz, while that's frustrating, it's not an indication you have low milk, just that your body isn't letting down well to the pump.
Good luck! I hope it works out for you!
