my daughter, Briseis 3 months old, likes to just be on the breast to look up at me and make noise like she's talking to me... pretty much just mumbling haha with the occasional smile but when she lets go because she'll smile too big she freaks and puts my nipple back in her mouth just to mumble again... i was wondering if anyone knew why she does that or if anyone else's baby does that ;P and if it is healthy or not... i think it's rather cute. Thanks :D

I also think it's so cute they do that! I also don't know WHY they do it?? It hasn't seemed to be for a bad reason...?? My little guy, around 5 months would mumble alot while bf, but stopped doing it after a few weeks. He's now doing this thing where he nurses for about 2-3 min, pulls off to suck on his fingers for maybe a minute, and then latches back on - and he'll do this several times per feeding!! lol I really just see it as him experimenting with his mouth.... I guess I really wouldn't worry about it as long as you're getting smiles and not cries!! :) Enjoy the cute little things she does!!

My 5 month old does the same thing! Raspberries, mumbling ... it scared me at first because I though she was getting ready to bear down and bite me, but turns out she just likes to chat a little while eating. I understand, I'm the same way!! How cute! Totally healthy, what a cutie she is in your profile pic.

Crazy! My son Imriel is about the same age and he does that too! I think it is a game to them, a way to interact with us.

My son does the same thing. He'll either pop off and smiiiiiiiile and jabber or he'll be latched on and say "mmmm mmmmm MMMM!" Sometimes he'll tease me by bringing his feet up because he knows I'll tickle them. Then he'll giggle and milk with shoot everywhere...Every once in a while he'll pop off, smile and clap before latching back on. It makes me wonder if that milk is especially tasty. Ha! He's such a silly kid, but I love it!

My daughter, now 7mos, would do the same thing! I thought it was cute and a little funny!
Sometimes she would get mad that i didnt feed her sooner and grumble at me! Or she would still be on but stop eating and look up at me as if to make sure i was still there!!
She doesnt really mumble anymore but after being on the boob for 5 min or so she will let out this big sigh and settle down until shes done eating! ITs soo cute!!

My bubs does the same, makes cute sounds and looks up at me then pulls off and gives a cheeky smile with milk running out his mouth. I love looking into his eyes and seeing his different expressions when hes having a feed. It's just so beautiful and special, they are doing it because they are happy and love boobie so much they just have to tell us i reckon.

My 3 month old does the same thing. She will be eating and see me and give me a big smile and coo. Enjoy it. They grow so quickly!

That is very normal! My daughter used to do that...now (she's 7 1/2 months old) she looks all around; at the tv, her daddy, the cats..everywhere! They just are becoming more aware of their surroundings.

my son chats while BF. I dont know why he does it but i think its nice. I take it as a sign as he is not really that interested in the milk any more and nornally stop feeding him. can be frustating when out in public and trying to be discrete and he leans right back leaving me out on display!
