my son is 11 months old and we plan to keep on nursing for quite awhile and I haven't given much thought to what I want him to call it but the other day he came up to me hungry and just joking I said "awe do you want some boobie?" and he goes "boo" and makes the sign for "more" (we do baby sign language) and while it was really cute I decided unless I want him to call it "boobie" I better start saying something else.

So what are some cute terms you have heard/use for nursing... Thanks alot.

My son is 4 months and just gets really happy when he knows he is about to get mommy's milk. My 23 month old DD though who I still nurse for ouchies and nap and night time most nights, calls them ba ba. Not really sure where it came from but it works.

as far as signing, I started at birth using simple signs as I spoke to Alexander. By 3 months he was signing "milk" I used to work with autistic children who used sign to communicate and decrease tantrums. It is AMAZING. We use ASL not baby sign, though it is mostly the same. I plan to continue with it so he is multilingual. there are cute books with pictures, videos, ect. the ASL website is free and helpful. I highly recommend it

This has been an interesting/amusing read. We don't call them anything special, just boob. My husband has coined a few terms though like 'boobcycle" (frozen breastmilk, think boob-icicle) and "boob juice" and "boob therapy" (when I nurse our daughter when she is hurt or upset).
She doesn't say a word for it yet, but when she does it'll probably be something similar to boob.

have him sign milk. That is what my son did. Then we would have him ask for "Mommy milk" he calls my breasts just that, breasts. I didn't want my son yelling boobie, ta ta or anything else across a restaurant.

My dd called them boobies and my husband called them his whopping big sin cushions....not very helpful or appropriate, I know but it cracked me up.

So funny reading these stories, thanks everyone! I had a friend who was VERY particular about words for parts of the body, so the breast was never called anything BUT "breast" because she hated words like "boob" etc. My nieces have just started to learn (at their school) about parts of the body and the proper names for them, which is just hilarious (and occasionally slightly embarrassing for their parents). My 14mo son weaned himself last month but never referred to my breasts in any way; he is still fascinated with them, tho (typical boy), so between my friend and my nieces I guess in future my breasts will always be "breasts" - because I'd get corrected too quickly otherwise!! Will be interested to see what you end up using ... :-D

This is such a hilarious topic! I love it.....I can't remember what my daughter called it (she's 8 now), but my son who's 5 now called it "juice", I thought that was really funny :) And now my youngest son, who's 16-months, calls it "nah" and he calls food "nah-nah" I never knew why, lol, but he's been saying that since about 9-months old!!! He'll walk up to me, look up at me, and say "Mom? nah?......nah?" when he wants it! So funny ;)

I never planned on coming up with a name for it, but every day to put my son down for a nap I would say "are u ready to take a nap?" as I was holding him and taking out my boob. Well somehow, when he was learning to talk he made the word "dappy." If he got tired or upset about something he'd crawl into my arms and get into the nursing position and say dappy. I guess he somehow derived it from the word nap. Well it's stuck and that has always been the word for it now. No one except our family knows what it means and it's such a cute word. Lol

We called them "milkies" It started because she would make the sign for milk when she wanted to nurse and the sign for water when she was thirsty. Once she started talking, milkies just seemed to work.

I didn't plan on using a name for them while breastfeeding, but my Mom started calling them Ninnies and will ask my son when he's fussy if he wants his Ninny milk. He's only 4 months so I don't know if he'll use the word or not, but when anyone asks him if he needs his Ninny Milk when he's hungry he gives me a big gummy grin :D

We use boo boos. I think its great to have a name that the kids can use. It is beyond entertainment and just nourishment. It is a special and amazing bond, especially as the baby gets older.

We were able to nurse my first until she was 15 months (and talking pretty clearly in complete sentences). We called it Mama Baba.
Now that my oldest is 28 months and my little one is 8 months we still call it Mama Baba

3 of my 4 children called it Mi-Mi's. (pronounced Mee-Meez)
1 of my 4 children called it Wowees (pronounced wow-eez)

I thought the latter was hilarious as I am a K cup and just kept thinking of some guy looking at me chest and going, "WOW-WEEEEEEE!!!" LOL!

I have a friend whose kids called it leche. Like milk in Spanish (they are not a Spanish speaking household either!)

i always referred to nursing as eating so tht way whether they were 1st born or 3yrs old, only nursing or doing solids also i wz nvr embarrassed by terminology. plus, noone outside th fam knew wut they wanted unless my babes were nursing & kept moving my shirt slightly, as if they were checking 2 c if they cud tell how much more wz left by looking @ my breast.

I agree Laura, I haven't used the milk sign, I use the drink sign, like tipping up a cup.
Buy honestly Eric just touches my breast when he asks and I think this is just fine. I mean people get embarrassed when he does this, but why not? They are here for him so why can't he ask for them?

I was told you are supposed to teach your children the correct terms for anatomy...I will teach my son to ask for "milk" instead of boobies! I also hate the sign for milk, the motion of milking a COW, I will teach the motion of tipping a cup instead =)

I didn't teach my son any words & he started calling it a "coconut tree." I have NO IDEA where he got that (we read him the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom & I guess he saw a similarity???), but we laughed our heads off. I made a point of teaching my second son the milk sign, & we say nurse. I've never liked referring to "the boob."

My kids always referred to it as "night night" Because this is what I would do to put them down for a nap or at bedtime, and they would usually fall asleep. It just stuck. Only my family and friends knew what we were talking about.
