Decreased Milk supply - HOW CAN I INCREASE IT?

I returned to work after my daughter was 8 weeks old-she is now 16 weeks. With all the reductions and cutbacks at work, I am having a difficult time being able to pump while at work. Other than taking Fenugreek (3 pills, 3 times per day) and eating oatmeal in the morning, does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase my milk supply to pre-working status?!

After you feed the baby.....pump for an extra 10-15 minutes to completely empty the breasts. This will tell your body to produce more milk. And it gives you milk to freeze.....

I read in a Parenting magazine when my older son was nursing to eat cantalope, carrotts and oatmeal and that will help. It did work for me. Also increase you pumping. Good Luck!

Domperidone is the low-risk prescription med. that increases supply.  There are also herbal teas that help to increase supply (your local health food store should have something) - check Jack Newman's website at www.drjacknewman.com for more info - apparently he will do consultations over the phone.

Lots of water! Drink it constantly. Your breastmilk is made from water.



Also, if you're pumping, make sure you pump often. If the intervals are too far apart your body automatically thinks you don't need as much and stops producing the milk.

Make yourself some "Jungle Juice" aka "Gummy Berry Juice". It has very basic ingredients, hydrates your body and gives you a boost. The recipe is, water 1L, apple juice 500ml, blackcurrant rehidrat (one sachet), blackthorn berry elixir tonic 60 ml. Tastes yummy. Enjoy but bare in mind stress has an effect on your milk produce.

Reglan can also cause severe Postpartum Depression in some moms. Pumping whenever you can, or better, nursing as frequently as possible is your best bet. It's scary to take the time to "stop working" to pump, but it's really, really important, and protected by the law in most states.  Good luck! Some moms hang a curtain with a spring-rod over their cubicle entrance, so you can just pump at your desk. Then it's not so obvious that you're getting up to go pump.

Nurse like crazy when you are home and I agree, try to pump more. Cluster feed in the evenings.... nursing every hour for 4-5 hours. Also there are prescription meds you get to increase your supply. Relagan or something like that is one. Your Dr. should be able to help, also try doing some searching on the net for more info on that if you might consider it. I have known mom's that have done the Rx and it helped a lot.. there are some side effects... like headache, but it might still be worth it to you.

i would pump every 2 hours for two days and drink water.it worked for me,but dosent work for everyone

You can get an herbal supplement from the health food store called"more milk plus", its from the brand mother hood herbs. I hear its awesome and def works!!!

My ped told me about the fenu seeds that you buy at the health store .. which sounds like the same thing you are taking. Hopefully things slow down at work and you can just go pump. I remember pumping on conference calls.. thank God for the mute button. Hang in there.. because this is when I stopped and wish I didn't.
