Diaper rash question.

My one month-old has diaper rash. She has had it for the last 2 weeks.

Is there any good organic or homeopathic remedies that you have used to "cure" it? I change her diaper often (every hour, before/after feedings or as needed), and have been using Avalon diaper balm, and recently "Mom to Mom" diaper ointment (which smells like cod oil!).

I'm thinking of using a natural powder to keep her dry and use the creams when necessary. Any advice out there?

This might seem obvious... but make sure diapers and wipes are unscented.   To clear up rash, use ZINC OXIDE cream (preferrably 25% zinc, but 17% works too)(baby diaper rash cream) after each diaper change.  do not put down vaseline or powder until the rash clears up.

zinc oxide is not a "natural" product but it works by making a barrier between baby's skin and poop/moisture so that the rash can heal.  (its a super-thick white creamy paste) usually works in a few diaper changes for my son.

once the rash clears, you can use vaseline after each poopy diaper as a preventitive measure.

hope this helps!

try to put starch, it is like powder, will absorb the humidity and any wetness.

My grandmother swears by using corn starch.  It's all natural and if you bake it in the oven on very low temp it's supposed to help even more.  I haven't had to try it but it is natural and perfume free.  She raised 5 kids and was a nurse so I suppose she knows a little something.  :)

It could be the diapers, my newborn had a rash for weeks until I switched brands. Also, you could try Lotramin cream, it works well on rashes that just won't go away.

My son had a rash last year that was bleeding after every dirty diaper! My doctor had me use butt paste and mix mylanta and corn starch until it's a thick paste and put it on top of the butt paste.

Good luck!

Are you using baby powder I found with my son when i was using baby powder he was tryin to breakout with a rash so i quit using baby powder and he never developed baby rash yet I think the baby powder has too much perfume.and use non sense baby wipes just any brand or else try to air his bum out without the diaper that would help too.

I'm not using any powders.

my 2 month old has super sensitive skin. he had a rash when he was 3 weeks old that lasted for about 3 weeks. it was an open wound rash! i tried everthing and nothing worked. finally i just rinsed out the wipes with clean water and let his butt dry completely. i even blow on it to help dry faster, lol. then i put some neosporin on it and it dissappeared in a couple days. hope it goes away soon!

What type of diapers are you using?  Wipes?

Sweet picture BTW.

We used a concoxtion my pediatrician gave us.  It's not "all natural" by any means but it works.

1 tube of balmex

1 tbsp of dye free children's benadryl

1 tbsp of regular mylanta

If you think it's yeast, add in some of the miconozole (sp?) (monitstat cream).

Mix together and keep in fridge.

Good luck to you!!!

Tiffany, I have been dealing with my 7 month old daughter's diaper rash the past few weeks as well! This morning it seems to have cleared up because I bought the pampers SENSITIVE diapers for her yesterday! I always just used the normal pampers swaddlers on her and never had a problem until a few weeks ago she was red and it just wouldn't go away! We have also switched from desitin to the butt paste!

Quoting Jessie:

Make sure you wipe baby's bum well at each change - try using a warm wash cloth instead of wipes as they can irritate a rash. Also let baby spend time with no diaper on and let the air and sun get at it. Vitamin E oil or Evening Primrose oil help with healing. I used the vitamin E and it cleared quite quickly. What does the rash look like?

The rash is red with little bumps - typical diaper rash - small areas on her little cheeks and then a little on her girlie parts. I have Vit E cream I will try today. I'll give hr more air time too, thanks!
