My son started having blood in his stools at about two weeks. His pediatrician took restricted my dairy intake for two weeks and then ran some tests. I was still seeing blood so he removed the top allergies from my diet....dairy, wheat, soy, eggs, peanut, tree-nut, and shellfish. I can't eat anything but I am not going to switch to formula. He is almost three months old now and the Dr. said that I can't try the foods again til he is at least six months. Has anyone else had this issue? I just feel so alone in it.

me somewhat i can't have milk or anything with cow milk protein... it's well worth it to have a happy non vomiting baby instead of a grump that would toss up anywhere

My exclusively breastfeed daughter has NINE food allergies and I am on diet restrictions. If he has allergies formula is the WORST thing for him. They are all milk and soy based. Plus there are other issues with formula that you do NOT want your baby to injest if he is having medical issues. Your best bet is to request a referral to a pediatric allergist. Blood in the stool can be indicitive of other problems so you want to make sure it really is the food that is causing it. For now, eat meats, fruits, veggies and other grains. Rice and beans is really healthy. Try amaranth, quinoa, and millet. They are all extremely nutritous grains that also happen to be gluten-free.

I really think that he should be tested for other things, not just food allergies. Just my opinion as a mom. If it is food allergies join one of the food allergy groups on here...there are a few. If you need support please just write a note to my wall. Good luck.
