I mixed my son's cereal with breastmilk at first thinking that would make it more appealing to him, but when I tried mixing it with just water he seemed to like the cereal better. I imagine every baby is different though.

You can mix it with water or formula. There isn't much nutritional value in cereal, so I like to add breast milk to it to add some. I pump after I bf in the morning, b/c that is when I have the most milk and then just keep it in the fridge for the days cereal. It doesn't take long to pump it and then I have about 2 oz. to work with that day (depending on how much you get when you pump).

Our lil onw got solids once she cut teeth per her Dr. She cut teeth at 2months we started with cereal and Bmilk but then did water for constipation LOL poor kid had Constipation since birth:)- then at 9months we made the switch to cows milk as per our Dr. You can start the switch to cows milk at 9months just talk to your Dr. Good luck

I agree with anna too. solids should wait until 6mths. don't worry about not having enough milk. the more milk that comes out of your breast, the more there will be produced. that is the way breast work. you can start by pumping a little extra and freezing, ready for when he is 6 mths and old enough to eat.

i agree with anna. i started my lil boy at 5 and a half months, but even then it was really slowly and i expressed milk for his cereal. i dont do a bottle for him, he has water in a sippy cup now (he is nearly 7 mo). i no longer do cereal, he has more finger food as he enjoys it more.
they grow so fast, dont try and rush him. i did for my first son and regret it.

Well, I am going to offer something different. Considering your ds is only 3 mths old, I would hold off on solids until atleast 6mths or longer. Children have very delicate digestive symptoms and solids are not necessary at this point, all he really needs is your breastmilk.

Your baby isn't supposed to get full fat milk until he/she is 1yr old...
But you can mix cereal with breastmilk, formula, water, or juice (as in the pedi approved juice... not regular apple juice...).
I personally only pump a little at a time -just enough to mix with the cereal. But my daughter doesn't get a bottle. We're going to start trying her on her sippy soon, though.
Good luck with solids!

Hi, if your baby is over 6 months then they can have full fat milk mixed in with their cereal. I still breastfeed my daughter but she has cows milk in her weetabix and she doesnt mind.

In the beginning I used breastmilk but once they got used to eating, I would use water too. The milk probably makes it taste more familiar at first. Plus it adds more nutrition. It's not required though. Water or formula work just as well as breastmilk.

You could mix the cereal with just water or with formula, basically you want to make it thin enough to get baby used to eating "solids" even though it starts out pretty runny. I just pumped once and used the milk over the course of a few days to mix cereal, you don't need a whole lot of milk b/c baby won't take much cereal the first few times you try.
