breastmilk right on the skin is great for baby acne. I was nonplussed about baby acne too then a friend suggested breastmilk. I worked really well and fast.

I did the same thing with my little man...Someone also commented that they were suprised you were the first to post this, I will say, I am too!! My little man had it on his nose from day one it seemed and my friend told me to put breastmilk on it...I did and it was clearing up the next morning!!! Worth a shot, if your little guy is like mine he gets milk all over his chin anyway so whats some on his cheeks and nose!!

It's best to just wipe it with a warm cloth once or twice a day. Don't use soap as it can further irritate your baby's skin. The acne is cause by hormones that are left over from when you were pregnant with him - kind of like hormonal acne in a teenager. It will go away eventually just be patient.

My little one is four weeks and just plain water clears them up. I realized that its my hormones from breastfeeding so I dont see how breast milk will clear them, when that is the cause.

My 7 month old has had it since the day he was born it just gets worse, we quite using wipes on his face, we've used Eucirin which helps alittle, wiped his face with warm water, soapy water... His dr's office at first told me it would go away by 6 months but that didnt happen, and then the other day one of them told me it was Exzema but i know its not cause i know what it looks like, and then yesterday she told me that it was acne and that no dr will give baby's a prescription cream for their face... I have to cut his nails every 2 days or when he's playing or sleeping he ends up scratching his face and making it worse. I see people on here talking about it being milk spots on them and they get it from breast milk well i dont breast feed so i dont think thats all true.

Nothing! It's something that occurs frequently to almost every baby and needs to be left alone. Do not irritate them or try and take them off. They will disappear on their own.

My son had it pretty bad, for a little while. I read it has to do with you baby's face being damp and the moisture can cause it. Keep a reciving blanket near your/ or bib on your baby and wipe consitantly lol and during bath time gently wash his face with a little baby wash. My son's cleared up in a couple days as soon as I formed these habbits. Just don't over do it or you can make it worse :) I don't know about the breast milk solution... my son got his acne from breast milk so evey baby is different.

I was told to leave it be and just wash the face with water. My friend told me to use the Johnson and Johnson baby lotion (pink bottle) and that helped too. Other than that, it does eventually pass. We fought it for a few weeks and even now my son still has it from time to time.

SO TRUE!!  I'm so surprised you are the first person to respond with this answer!  I was about to say it myself!  Just express some breastmilk into a clean washcloth and wipe your baby's face down.  It will clear up sooner than you realized they had the acne!  It's incredibly common and I too was so stressed about this, I had nightmares that my sweet baby's face would be scarred with pimples and pot marks.  Of course it cleared up with no problems, though.  :)  I hope it works for you!

My daughter had horrable acne for about a month. She looked like a raspberry. A friend suggested Burts Bees diaper ointment & it worked great for us. She still has some, but it's not as common or red. I also would wipe her face once a day with warm water.

first I sould tell you I'm a first time mom so everything worries me! It just so happened she broke out with it right after we left the park. I was highly allergic to grass as an infant so I thought she was having an allergic reaction. When I took her temp it was 100f, which I now know is normal, so then I though it must be a heat rash. Then I was even concerned that it was a horrible birthmark of some sort on her cheeks. After I went to the doctor it started to spread all over her face but the doctor had warned me that it might happen so I didn't panic. I told you everything went though my mind!

Hi again,

The dermatologist I saw said my LO had severe baby acne. So, yes I agree it does sound horrible, but it is what it is. And as I said before, I hope nobody deals with what he has.

Melissa, what were you fearing it was? I've had a million things going through my head, but the ped and derm, both agree its acne. Just curious :)

The term baby acne sounds horrible. I've never heard it called that before. Only Milk spots. They are perfectly normal, often caused by the hormones being passed through breast milk. My daughter had them for the first two months. They go away in their own time. Simply wash his face using a washer and water. Dont put too much or any products on them. Also sunlight and fresh air helps!

My daughter had it so bad that I took her to the doctor with fear that it was something else. The doctor told me that it is just caused by the mothers hormones and there is nothing you can do about it. It does not mean that your not taking care of the babies skin. He said it will peek at 10 weeks and then start to go away. Until then there is nothing you can do and don't pick at it!

My son had it very bad too. It was even in his hair, but it went away after a month or so. My husbands aunt who is a nurse in a NICU suggested we use Cetaphil (Its an adult facewash) when we bathe him because its so mild thats what they use on the premies.

im also a nurse... leave it alone!!! if it is "baby acne" it will go away on its own. if it's really irritated, it may be exzema, which you would need to see your dr for. i've seen babies come to the emergency dept with severe exzema... it made me want to cry!

baby acne is caused by a hormone in the mothers milk, it will clear up on its own. Just bath the baby normally and leave it be.

Just keep it clean and dry! It's due to hormones and will settle with time!

Do you breastfeed? My son has milk spots - which look like acne and always seem worse after breastfeeding but I but Lucas Pawpaw gel on his face and it clears up within a day.

[deleted account]

My pediatrician suggested to use 1% hydrocortizone cream once or twice a day. I mixed it with baby lotion and it cleared her face up in like 5 days.

I'm a labor & delivery nurse. You can just leave it be. It clears up in the first few months. Remember to not use soapy water on his face, because that can worsen it.

Donovan is 1 week away from turning ONE, and he still has it very bad on both cheeks. We have been to the dermatologist, b/c it is so enflamed our ped. thought it would start to scar. That was at 7 months. Since then we've been on two meds: Clindamycin for 3.5 months, which is an antibac. Since about 11 months he is using DUAC, which is the clindamycin paired with benz. peroxide. The dermatologist guessed that it was probably my hormones still, and that the DUAC would take up to 4 months to see anything. This is very frustrating. I've asked for advice on MANY forums, including all natural approaches. Everybody has different 'reasons' they say its there. One said to detox him of all his vaccines, and that those were the cause. *BIG SIGH!* I am still BFing, and plan to until he weans himself. So, whats next?!

Seriously, I hope nobody deals with what we are seeing. Good LUCK!!

Ugh...I hated it when my daughter had it! But you really just have to wait it out. She had it for about 2-3 weeks and then it suddenly cleared up. I just washed her face with water twice a day.

With my daughter. I would just take the wipes and wipe her face. It seems to help with the acne. I noticed that the wipes help dry it out. But she is 5 months now and still gets it. Its normal.

I'de say just wait it out. my son had it bad too for about the first two months of his life but it went away... as long as you don't pick at his face... I'm one of those people that it bothers me and i wanted to pick but i know that it can make scars so i resisted
