Hi my baby Logan is 6months old & over the last few weeks i have noticed he gets really fussy after about 5 mins on one side so i change him & its the same thing.
Sometimers he wants to be feed earlier than usual & other times he seems fine for hours.
He eats solid foods now could it be due to that? Or is he just getting lazy & only wanting to drink the let down so than he doesnt want to work for the rest?
Any suggestions on what to do to get him to drink more as im worried that he isnt getting enough to eat.
Also im worried i might lose my milk supply.
So far i have been really persistant with him as he is the only baby of mine to breast feed for so long & i really want to feed him as long as possible.

My little one started doing the same thing. She's seven months now, but around 6 months she did have the same response to feeding as your Logan. I was told, like Emily posted, that she was getting more efficient at nursing, plus, as you said, the solids are making an appearance now, so that will influence her nursing a bit.



I don't think you'll end up with this problem because it sounds like you're doing everything just as you should be, but if you're really worried about losing your supply you could try pumping a bit extra after you finish nursing, to increase production. Also, I've noticed that my little girl is so active and inquisitive these days that I wonder if she doesn't sometimes just forget she's hungry! haha If you suspect that might be the case during those longer spans between nursing sessions, you could offer him a feed at times when you think he would logically be hungry and see if he'll take it. He might just be distracted, but maybe he'll eat when you remind him it's there?

He seems fine with what he drinks which is about 5 minutes off each side. I have been nursing him when he seems too want it which varies all the time. Breastfeeding a baby at this age is all new to me as none of my others have breastfeed past 2 months. Thanks very much for your help Emily :o)

Do you mean that he's fussy afterward? Or is the issue just that he's done in 5 minutes? If he's simply done in 5 minutes and seems fine otherwise, that's totally normal for a 6-month-old. They get really fast and efficient at nursing by that age. They still get out a lot of milk, just in less time. I wouldn't worry about your supply, as long as you are nursing on demand and following his cues.
