Dry Nipples from Cloth Breastpads

I am trying to switch to cotton breastpads but I find anytime I use them, my nipples get extremely dry and stick to the pads and the next time I feed my DD the pain is excruciating. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there are any solutions to this? I just finished a treatment for thrush in my nipples with Dr. Newman's APNO (DD didn't seem to have it in her mouth) and I think the thrush is gone because there isn't any more pain but I find the disposable Medela nursing pads are making my nipples really itchy, which is why I am trying to switch to cloth...

I know that feeling! The same thing happened to me, especially in the beginning. Do you coat your nipples with any ointment after breastfeeding? I had some lansinoh at first but my severe issues made me ask my ob, and they gave me a (expensive, but lasted FOREVER) nipple cream that worked like a miracle! THis can help with the stick. But, with the cloth ones, my nipples always did stick a tiny bit, but it was only painful in the beginning (when I was leaking more- probably the first two months or so?). Maybe try a different brand (or make your own from scraps of fabric? minimal sewing required!) As far as the disposables go, I found Gerber to be MUCH nicer than Medela- the Medela made me itch too. And I would find the Gerber ones on sale, and they were always cheaper. Hope this helps, and sorry about your thrush- ouch!
