Hi Ladies, I just want to start off by saying I'm new here! And I have a few questions... If any one could help I would greatly appreciate it. So I have been exclusively pumping for my daughter who is going to be turning 1 on October 24th! Due to complications with both of us after delivery she never latched on. I felt pumping was better than giving her formula. Shortly after I had gotten my period and it was quite heavy and would last a month or longer, my dr had put me on the "mini" pill. It helped a little months later but I'm still cramping and bleeding bad so I just stopped taking it. Has any one experienced this and what can I do to help with this? My next question is... We are now wanting to try for #2!!!! How long should I wait to try after going off the pill and is it possible to conceive since I'm exclusively pumping? I have been keeping a log of my periods but not yet! Again any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ;)

you can get ovulation tests, start taking them 2 or 3 days before the date you think you should be ovulating and they will show +be when you actually are, if you prefer to conceive with the rythm method, or just "practice" lots ;-) if your periods aren't regular though, you may want to try the ov stocks (we used them 1st time round as my cycle fluctuated between 16 + 40 days!)

Go get checked out! My son turned one in March and starting that month, my periods got very erratic. Had it twice in March, then nothing for 3 months, then super super heavy in July and now it's been going since September 15th despite progesterone and then birth control pills (although it's not as heavy as it was before the BCPs). A few weeks ago (after about 2-3 weeks of HEAVY bleeding), I had bloodwork and an ultrasound done. Turns out I have a cyst on one of my ovaries which my doc believes is wreaking havoc on my hormones and causing all the bleeding. If you are soaking a pad in less than an hour for successive hours, passing clots or have pain, you need to figure out why rather than just waiting for it to get better. I thought my problems were from my son still breastfeeding, but as we have started weaning the bleeding has only gotten worse.

I think as long as you are still having periods, you can get pregnant, even if you are breastfeeding, and as for coming off the pill, you can get pregnant pretty much straight away (I was technically still on mine when I fell pregnant with #2, I had just missed a few :-S ) hope that's helpful

Hi Lois - Welcome!

Here's a great link about breastfeeding and the return of fertility. The first part of the page is about using breastfeeding to prevent pregnancy, but if you scroll down further it talks about the return of fertility, and conceiving while still breastfeeding.

Thx again Lisa, I haven't used an ovulation test but I'll give it a go! Both of you have been so helpful to all my questions. I guess getting pregnant with Sophia was just LUCK 😉 thank you guys again and have a great weekend!

Thx Lisa, it was helpful. I also was reading the link that Lori had suggested.... A little confusing , but I kinda got the idea. I'm just still not really sure if I still ovulate like ( normal ) around 15 days? My periods are heavy, light & then stop which then returns light again. Like the last two periods I've had was September 17th which kinda lasted 7 days or shortly after. Then now October 13th and still on which is on/off. I looked up ovulation on a site then put in my first day of period and it says I should ovulate between oct 24th - 29th? That's the confusing part! I really don't wanna sound dumb and like I need to take health class 101 again LOL!
