i started to take fenugreek and blessed thistle yesterday and after i took it i felt fatigued and my heart felt kind of jumpy. i also had some purpleish dots show up in just one spot on my left leg (no itching and they are not raised up and no where else on my body). i was just trying to boost my supply a little so i could have something to pump and save. i try pumping and it is like i pump all of his food out (i don't even get that much out... 2 1/2 oz. maybe) and he acts like he is not getting enough for the rest of the day. he tugs on me and crys like nothing is coming out. i just want some extra in case something comes up and i have to leave him with someone. any suggestions? has anyone else had any allergies or side effects from blessed thistle or fenugreek?

I take fenugreek with no problems. Try pumping in the morning, a half hour after he eats. I was told that you replenish better earlier in the day. It may take a day or two to get your body used to the need for more milk. Also, as far as heart palpitations I would try it again and see if you get a similar reaction, obviously then I would quit if so. I was just talkling to a lactation consultant the other day and she said fenugreek was good but stick with that and not the blessed thistle. Maybe there are some blessed thistle side effects? Let me know how it goes if you don't mind.

Make sure YOU are taking in enough fluids for your own health and his nursing. Also, make sure your diet s adquate to support nursing....about 2200-2500 calories per day; it seems like alot, but you are supporting two bodies. Poor nutrition will reduce your milk production.

Try taking the supplements separately to find out which is may be causing your symptoms.

Also, If I were you I might see my doctor and find out why you were having a jumpy heart and the purpleish dots. You know what they say, better safe than sorry. I say, you never wanna mess around with your heart.

I'm glad everything is working out. I've been doing the same with water, especially since it's now warmer out. I feed my son on both sides at one feeding also, just make sure you empty the one side and get the hind milk before you switch to the other. You may already know this if so, sorry for nagging. :)

i am a wateraholic... since i have been trying to make more i think i am about water logged. lol but, i definitely can tell that my supply is signifigantly lower when i don't get enough water in a day.

i continued to try both and have no blessed thistle side effects or fenugreek side effects. maybe i was just having a strange day! it seems like it might be working. i was just feeding on one side at a time, so i began doing both at one feeding and now it seems like each side is making less and equaling what one side did before. i began pumping after he eats today. hopefully that will straighten things out and i will make more in a day or so? thanks for your input...

I have not taken the supplement you are talking about, but I would not take anything that was causing me a problem with my health. You may want to pump every time you nurse your son. If you pump an ounce (or less) at a time it should not affect him too much and you will eventually have enough for a full bottle. It will also build your milk supply, but that might take a few days.

How much water are you drinking? I've never taken the fenugreek so I can't help you there.
