Food that helps with breast milk

A healthy balanced diet, with lots of water. Some people choose to add various supplements, like fenugreek or special medications, but they generally don't have much effect. Just breastfeed as much as you can. Remember you baby's feeding is far more efficient than pumping.



Why are you certain your milk supply is inadequate? I'd encourage you to speak with a lactation consultant or breastfeeding counsellor.

I pumped for 14 months, I also took fenugreek and blessed thistle everyday. I power pumped for a day( as many times as possible even if it was 5-10 min) to get my milk supply up. I got off the pill, my nurse said that can reduce supply. I would pump longer during the times that I produced more milk. You can do it!!

one or two servings of oatmeal a day,more whole grains, make sure u r drinking enough water/juice and other hydrating liquids. cut back or cut out any caffeine. I haven't had a problem with milk supply and caffeine but lots of mamas are sensitive to it and it can decrease supply. you can also take a fenugreek supplement. It can help a lot.

lots of water, oatmeal and dark beer (like guiness) it tastes terrible but my lactation nurse said to drink half a pint every other night after baby goes down for bed (before he sleeps for the longest) also if nothing else works motherlove.com has lots of supplements for increasing milk production (it worked for me a little tooo well!)

Drink plenty of fluids and stay away from caffeine, and salty foods because they can dehydrate you. There is a tea called Mother's Milk, that I drink that is supposed to help healthy lactation. Here's the site:

Drink lots of water, protein at every meal and stay away from vitamins, supplements and medication(if possible) as they have been known to affect milk supply.

have u changed the valves in your pump lately? they can wear out and really affect your yield.



also pumping at least once at night between midnight and 5 am is really helpful in getting supply up because prolactin levels are higher then.

You can talk to your docter about herbal supplements that will increase supply. Also I was told oatmeal is very good for increasing supply.

Also with excusive pumping the pump does not get all the milk out, you can try expressing by hand after you have pumped to get the last of the milk out.

eating oatmeal will help. I took more milk plus vitamins too. I tried everything for my son, and nothing seemed to work. I was able to feed him until he was 2 months. I tried pumping, but I couldn't keep up with the demand. Also, drinking lots of water and making sure you eat.
