my breastfead baby girl is just about 1 and i still can't get her to drink breastmilk, formula, or milk out of a bottle or a sippy cup. She will take water and juice but with any type of milk she makes gagging noises and spits it out. How do I make her start?

Have you tried a big person cup? My son only just started using a sippy cup on occasion (at 13months). He much prefers if I hold a regular cup for him to drink out of. He still only gets water though. I have never offered formula, cows milk, juice, or even pumped breast milk in a cup so I'm only partially speaking from experience here.

i'd skip the bottle entirely and just try the sippy. my daughter had to have the milk a bit warm to take it.the cold was a shock, i think. i just gave her water or milk and eventually she got thirsty and just drank it. but when the milk was cold, for the first month, she would take a drink then spit it out.

my son just turned one (also bfed) and takes juice, but not milk, from a sippy cup too. i just keep offering it once a day - usually in the afternoon with his snack- he still doesnt really like it per se, but he will take a sip if hes thirsty! i say do what you can, and dont stress about the rest!

Do you NEED to make her start right now?
You can simply let her mooch whatever you're having out of your cup while you hold it and slowly this will progress to her becoming more used to the different technique of drinking vs. nursing. She'll get it eventually. Rest assured she won't need to nurse forever.
