Getting my 4 month old son to fall asleep

My 4 month old son doesn't want to fall asleep in his cot at night. He usually falls asleep while breastfeeding, but wakes up as soon as I place him in his cot. He then cries on and off, and only eventually falls asleep after about an hour (sometimes more). He wakes if his dummy comes out, and for no reason in particular. I stay in his room with him the whole time, rubbbing his head or holding his hand. I would love some techniques to get him to fall asleep by himself. Thank you

i thik the more u stick to ur guns on this one the better and easier it will be. My 4 month old daughter is thankfully only waking up once dyring the night now, but doesnt usually go down untill anywhere between 1030-midnight! i have nothiced however that a nice warm bath and lots of play afterwards definitly wears her out. almost the very minute i put her on the boob afterward she crashes out! then i sneak her into her crib. we have a humidifier going near her room and i think the white noise helps her stay asleep too. im my house the tv or her big 2yr old brother make silence hard to come by, so i thik it helps to have a little background noise when she is sleeping in her crib. i dont know if that help u at all, but it works for me! good luck!

My son was the same way at that age. Honestly, the only way I ever got myself and him some quality sleep was to have him sleep with us in our bed. He's still there at 15 months, and my husband and I really enjoy it. Some babies really just love being close to mommy.

Thanks Tarsha, Callum falls asleep sometimes during the day when he is really tired all on his own. Other times he falls asleep in the Baby Bjorn (front pouch) or in the pram when we go on a walk. At night he has a bath with daddy which he loves; kicking his legs in the big bath. But he cries as soon as I take him into his room, but stops if I carry him out into the lounge room.

HI i have a 4 month old as well, he doesnt take his dummy anymore and its really hard 4 me 2 get him 2 fall asleep, sometimes he falls asleep while breastfeeding but usually i have to rock him in his pram 4 20min, i try and put him in cot with mobile on but he cries! bubs might just want to be close 2 you, sorry coudnt help much but i know how u feel!! how is ur bubs durning the day with sleeping? im trying to start a routine with mine, feed first then relaxing bath cuddles and while awake (but sleepy) put in cot...good luck :)
