Has anyone used glycerin suppositories with an infant who has a hard, gassy belly and trouble pooping? Does it help?

Use the FLEET ones... they are already liquid... and work within minutes !!! My little one has a great poop within 5 minutes....
I spoke to the ped. about this... completely normal. He said around 6 months, their stomach bacteria starts to increase, thus making the poop harder & not as often. He also said that suppositories may be used every 2 to 4 days, if the baby is showing signs of discomfort.
Hope that helps !!

I used one after my exclusively breastbed baby didnt have a bowl movement for 7 days. I put vaseline on it first and she didn't even notice. She had a bowl movement within 15 minutes (including what looked like the entier suppository) with no straining or crying. From what I've heard they can do no harm and are mostly water and salt.

Diet! What you eat he gets. Eat healthy and he should regulate in a week. Avoid spices or strong anything. NO JUNK! Lots of milk, yogurt, cheese, egg, some carbs and greens. After 8 babies breast feed. I found my diet made the difference.

My son is VERY gassy... he's 6 months old. I did mylecon drops before and after he fed and this seemed to help. I also looked at my diet and found some things that were probably hurting his belly. He did have some pooping problems around that age, but they disappeared within a couple of weeks. Around 2 - 3 weeks they go through a growth spurt and take in a lot more volume... which their bodies are not yet used to. I would try the mylecon and burping more. Also look at your foods - ESPECIALLY caffeine. My daughter had an awful time because I was drinking too many caffinated drinks. I wouldn't do suppositories unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary. Also, breastfed babies tend to have a bowel movement every couple of days sometimes. See what happens for a couple of weeks and then talk to you MD. Hope this helps!! Like I said, my son was just like that and now he's 6 months old. He goes to the bathroom every couple of days, unless he's teething. He's always been gassy... but the things I talked about helped a lot!

Go to the doctor first, see what he says. Breastfed babies can go as long as a week without pooping. Or talk to a pharmacist.

No solids yet, he's just 3 weeks old. He's breastfeeding exclusively.

Have you started solids yet? Or is your baby only breastfeeding?
