Hi All- My son is 3 months old and will at the most go only 4 hours between feedings at night (and this has been rare). Usually at night he goes 2-3 hours between feedings and during the day he eats every 1 1/2- 2 hours. Is there anything I can eat to make my milk richer or any tips to get him on a longer feeding schedule?

Three months is still pretty young to expect a good night sleep. My daughter who is nearly 19 months still wakes in the night. I don't know of anything that makes your milk richer, you're body is making the perfect milk for your son right now. Two hours between feeding sounds right for his age and even for a few more months. I don't know how you two sleep, but bedsharing works really well for us. It's a lot less work, in the night when he's laying right next to you and wakes up.

I do dream feeding as well. it will keep him sleeping for a few extra hours. Don't worry, your baby know what he needs, soon he'll be eating solid foods and then he won't need mommy milk so much.

Hi Stephanie, I agree with the other mums- he is doing exactly what he is meant to be doing. Breastmilk gets digested in 90 minutes too. My son did exactly what your son is doing. My lo was still having at least one feed a night until he was 8mo when he started sleeping through. As he gets older he will be able to go longer between feeds. He usually now has 4-5 bf a day, with three solid meals too, so he is going about 3-4 hours between feeds now.

Nope...just like Allison said below...he is plugging along at exactly the rate he should be. Actually, if you are getting the rare 4 hours out of him then good for you. At that age, my kiddo was up every other hour. Its exhausting, I know but you are doing an amazing job. The only other thing I did was right before I was ready to go to bed I would "dream feed" my son. I literally scooped him up while he was dead asleep and nursed him. I found that by doing this I got a few hours more sleep before he got up the first time.

Nope - he's doing exactly what he needs to do to grow and keep up your supply! 4 hours at night is really good! By nursing so often during the day you are helping him tank up for that long night stretch. Babies need approximately 25 oz of breastmilk a day (no need to measure if you're nursing on demand - baby takes what he needs and it averages about 25 oz no matter the age as breastmilk adjusts based on what baby needs).

Trust your baby and your body! :-) Sounds like it really is exactly right.
