Have anyone experienced that baby passes green poop?
My son is 4months now, fully breastfed. for couple of days he passes green loose stool (about 6 nappies a day). Doctor says it sometimes happens to babies, as color may vary, and it doesn't mean a problem as long as there is no blood in it.... my son doesn't look weak or ill, just his nappies worry me.
Did anybody have such problem?what could it cause? any suggestions...

Thanks ladies

Have you recently started giving him any vitamin supplements? Anything with iron will do that to the color of baby's stool. Supplementing with formula can do it too, since formula is usually iron-fortified. Even one bottle of formula if you happen to have to supplement once is enough to change the color several days later, since it takes so much longer to digest than breastmilk.

That was happening to my son and when I went to see the doctor I also saw the lactation especialist and it so happened that my son was taking too much milk. I breast feed and I had so much milk so I had to cut back on the feeding and the poop went back to it's normal color.

my daughter passes green stool whenever she doesn't get enough hindmilk. leave her on one breast for a full feed at a time. that might help

Did you eat anything with Tomatos in it? Tomato products can turn your baby's poop green, Info I got from my LLL leader. Crazy right? I never realized how much tomato stuff I ate till i nursed my daughter. Seems like everyday she has one or two normal consistancy green diapers.

The foremilk/hindmilk imbalance if it's frothy. If it's bright green and normal consistency it could be a reaction to something- could be viral, vaccines or even something you ate. Some babies if they have alot of nasal mucus that they're swallowing can turn green. I worry everytime my LO's diapers 'look funny' but if they aren't passing blood, running a fever or acting lethargic then there is no cause for concern. Just keep baby hydrated.
Good luck!

that happened to me (well... not me.. my baby!!) not long ago! it was for a few days, took her to the docs and all the nurse could say was that it was probably from the injections she had had a few days prior! after a couple of days it went back to its normal colour! i read about it and alot of advice was about the hindmilk/foremilk imbalance! so if i had to feed eloise in the space of four hours a number of times, i made sure i did it from the same breast!

I've seen green poop on occasion as well. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just take up these ladies suggestions of nursing a little longer on each side...

Yes i agree, its most likely he isnt getting enough hindmilk. I would just let him nurse a little longer on the same breast before switching.

Is the poo frothy green? My doctor also said colors can vary although black, red or colorless need to be checked out. It could be foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. Make sure that baby thoroughly empties the first breast before switching sides. This ensures that he gets plenty of the fatty hindmilk. Other symptoms of foremilk/hindmilk imbalance (besides frothy green poo) is a gassy, fussy baby.
