Growth spurt? Or something else?

I've been treating my baby with Gentian Violet for a very small case of thrush, today is the 3rd day and I've only used it 1 time a day at around 1-2pm. However, I've noticed that the last 2 nights my baby seems to want to nurse more during the day every 2 - 2 1/2 hours and during the night he seems to want to nurse longer even though he cannot wake for a good feed.

Is it possible that at almost 5 weeks he's starting another growth spurt? It does seem like cluster feeding since today he woke me at 3am and was up fussing until after 5am, again at 7 for a snack, again at 8:40, again at 10ish am, again at noon, again at 1:30, again before 4pm. He's sleeping now, but he wakes and fusses slightly and goes back down. What's going on?

definately possible. growth spurts often occur at around 3 wks, 6 wks and 3 months, but babies haven't read the books yet so sometimes they are not textbook and may have growth spurts at any time! besides 5 wks is awfully close to 6 weeks!

Oh yes, he is right on time for a growth spurt! :) No worries - make sure he is feeding well and completely emptying the breast - if he falls asleep during the feeding, wake him up and offer again, then you can determine if he's done or not - cause otherwise he maybe hungry cause he is only getting a "snack". But totally sounds like a growth spurt to me, and right around 6 weeks is normal.
