Hi Mommas!! My little guy is 5 1/2 mos old. He is doing really well with solids and b/f until recently. He is going through a growth spurt right now. He will still eat his solids just not as much. Is this b/c he trying to rev up the milk and he needs that more? And if so will he go back to the solids when this spurt is over?

I have definately noticed the comfort thing with teething. My guy has two teeth already. I made the comment to my husband that I thought he was working on another one, the drool is out of control!! Maybe that is it.

my son is 9 months old and still does that. some days he hardly eats anything at all, just mostly breastfeeds. not to worry, just let him dictate how much or little he wants. never force him to eat if he doesnt want to, but offer all kinds of food for him to try (slowly of couse) and you may end up with a baby like mine who eats anything from salmon and asperagus to chinese food!

also sometimes when they are teething they find more comfort at the breast. something to keep in mind around the 6 month mark.

I also started my exclusively breastfed son on solids at 5 1/2 months. He was 10 lb. 4 oz. at birth and so his big ole' body was really ready for food. However, it will be completely normal for your child's ENTIRE "baby-ness" (probably until he's 2 or so!) to go through peaks and valleys when it comes to eating. My son would eat ravenously (at the table and breast) for several days and then only want breast for a couple. Thankfully he's never not wanted the breast, as we're still nursing and he's 18 months old.

But I would say that in my experience and it seems from the research I've done that your little one's interest in solid foods, especially at his very young age, will come and go. Keep offering him a wide variety of things, but don't stress about his solid food consumption, especially if he's still doing excellently at the breast. Until he's a year old, your breastmilk should be his primary source of nutrition. The solid foods are "practice" for him and also giving him some nourishment and filling his belly...but nothing like your milk. Hope this helps! :)
