I am still pregnant, about 30 weeks. I eat pretty well and take my prenatal every day and I am still loosing all my hair. I asked my doctor and he said you could be the healthiest person in the world and still loose your hair. A lot of it is based on hormones.
Sorry to burst your docs bubble but I am a Hair Stylist and hair loss in pregnancy or after is usually due to medication, epidural and drugs and the stress to your body. In my experience if you take prenatal vitamins during and after especially while BF that you either don't have hair loss or not as much you body is starved for nutrients and your skin, hair and nails are the last thing to get it. With my first I believe I started lossing hair when she was 4 months old that is when I stopped nursing. I was not good at all about taking vitamins after. This time I have been and my baby is 7.5 weeks old so we'll see. But take vitamins that is a huge thing and will help new hairs grow faster if they do fall out.

yeah, i read this could happen, so during pregnancy i let my hair grow as long as it could and the second i noticed it faling out (about a month ago) i decided to go to a local salon and donate my hair to locks of love...you can go to the locks of love website and download a form. and then call around and find a salon that gives a free cut and style with a donation to locks of love....you help out kids with cancer with those useful pregnancy hormones that made your hair so long and full and beautiful and you get a new coif for free! what a deal!

Hmm. The weird thing was I lost twice as much hair as I was used to losing during the pregnancy and then had the baby, almost stopped losing hair and then at about 3 months, started losing it like there was no tomorrow. The "baby" hairs drive me crazy because the rest of the hair that still around is waist length! :P I'm gladd it will stop eventually.

Yep, I'm dealing with all of those lovely "baby" hairs on the top of my head that stand straight up! The best trick to deal with them is to use a little bit of clear mascara to tame those frizzies. My pattern was like Sarah's - started at about 3 months and lasted for about 3 months. I've always had very thick hair, so it's nice to have thinner hair for a change :-)

mine fell out in handfulls after both kids! it always starts 3 months after i give birth and lasts about 3 months. i get bald patches! but the good news is that it does grow back and it will stop falling out. oh yeah and it looks so beautiful when its about an inch long;) just a lil something extra to look foward to.
Sorry, but it's another one of those pregnancy things that just happens after you give birth. When you're pregnant your hormones slow the normal shedding of hairs, and after you give birth your hormones crash and so does your hair. I've gone back to bangs after each child because of it. I figure it's just hair, though, it does grow back. The 'shedding' does even out and you'll be back to normal soon.

Megan, welcome to the club!!! I have been going through the same thing. For me, I didn't lose any hair during my pregnancy, now, my little boy is 6 months old, and it is coming out in handfuls! I too would love to know if there is anything I can do!
