My daughter is 4 months and breastfed. I have been losing my hair like crazy lately, to the point that I have a small patch of very thinned hair at my hairline! I know some hair loss is normal post baby, but mine seems excessive. Any suggestions on how to stop this?

Mine is also 4 months and I am going through the exact same thing! I am getting my hair cut this week hopefully. Not that I am glad you ate losing your hair but it is nice to know I'm not the only one!

I feel for ya! My hair is baby thin and once it started to fall out it was awful! I remember crying in the shower watching my hair come out while shampooing. I talked to my stylist and she recommended Nioxin. It helps with hair growth and has done wonders for me! It is a bit pricey, but will last you as you don't need to use much. It was well worth it for me I saw a difference within weeks! Good luck :)

My husband was worried he would have a bald wife! My son is now 9 months old and I have begun to see all the little hairs on my head growing back (standing straight out). I do look pretty funny, but at least my hair is coming back in!

You could get your thyroid checked, but honestly it is just one of those things. I have it now. Thank goodness I grew my hair back out (it was short during pregnancy) so that the long hair covers the "bald" spots:) my husband laughs that I have the receeding hairline now:)

I began losing hair with my first born (9/2006) about 3 months after her birth and was still losing hair 8 months later. I was also tired all the time, so my Doctor decided to test my thyroid, and it turns out that I had low numbers, and now take medication to regulate it. I would ask your Doctor if the excessive hair loss could be a contributing factor to an off thyroid.

Quoting Tara:

Sorry but it's just one of those things. It will grow back. My favourite part is when the baby is 10 or 11 months and you have a bunch of 2 inch long hair that stands straight up.:)

OMG! I had those in excess both times. It was so dorky looking.

Sorry but it's just one of those things. It will grow back. My favourite part is when the baby is 10 or 11 months and you have a bunch of 2 inch long hair that stands straight up.:) It has nothing to do with breastfeeding, so there should be no worries there. Your body stops shedding hair during the pregnancy then when hormones go back to normal range all the hair that should have been shed over the last year falls out at once. I feel for you, when this happened to me I was so alarmed. It took a bit but it's all back to normal now.
