having knee sugery and still breastfeeding
Ask what meds they will give you and call the InfantRisk center (http://www.infantrisk.org/). It's in the U.S. and it's a hotline ran by Dr. Hale. They can tell you if it's safe to take while nursing. If you don't live in the U.S. a pharmacist or lactation consultant should be able to tell you because they should have that book or a similar book telling them what's safe to take while nursing. Many pain meds are fine to take with BF (but always check). Here's more info with additional links that may help you:

i have told my doctor that i was breastfeeding still he just said that it was o.k. and that she might be a little tired. Not exactly what i want to hear. I have pumped before when she was 4 months but now she is 18 months and the pump just doesn"t get that much but I guess i will have to try because i am not ready to wean her at the moment.

hiya, you need to have a good chat with your doctors and health visitor and tell them that you are breastfeeding. i needed to have some medication recently and my doctor brought out this massive book (it was HUGE!!) and its got all medicines in and the info about breastfeeding and pregnancy and side effects, risks, etc. if the medicine wont mix well with breastfeeding, can you pump in the build up to your surgery so you have supplies in the freezer you can give, then pump and dump until the medication is out of your system? hope this helps, def talk to your doctor, xx
