take garlic tablets. not only will they help you with your cold, but the tablets will go into your milk and will help your baby fight it to. And the best thing is, its all natural!

Yes regarding the sudafed- it is known to decrease supply. It should not be taken before the mother's milk supply is well established (I didn't use it prior to six months).

Careful... stay away from Sudafed b/c it can lower your milk supply. Also menthol also has the possibility to lower supply. Check out Kellymom.com for more info on what is safe to take while breastfeeding or to check out the ingredients of any med that you might want to take. It may surprise you but most are safe its just your supply to worry about.
I am battling a cold myself and am trying to lesson symptoms b/c although sick I still have to function to take care of my two little ones. Try some theraflu or tylenol cold... and only dose up when you need to just to be safe.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Your milk produces antibodies against the virus. I was sick 2 weeks after I delievered and breasefed right through it and my little one never got sick. It's best for babies to keep breasfeeding during this time as all of the nutrients and anibodies they need are in the breastmilk...THAT''S THE BENEFIT OF BREASTFEEDING!! It cuts down on respiratory illness's and other infectious illness's. Be aware sudafed can decrese your milk supply. There have been recent published studies that have backed this data up so just beware, if it becomes a problem just stop using them. Hope you feel better soon.

Best way to get over a cold is to let your body deal with it. Cold medications suppress your body's natural ability to rid itself of the virus. Saline nasal spray a few times a day works great to shorten the duration of a cold.
All that being said, I am a weenie when I have a cold, and I am the first to pop the sudafed. You can indeed take cold medications while breastfeeding, it's just that the medications aren't the best at rapidly allowing your body to eliminate the virus.
But regarding your concern about your baby getting your cold- well, he may, and he may not. Just your close proximity to him exposes him to your germs. But the antibodies in your milk may prevent the infection, and if he does get sick, may lessen the severity.

lots of fluids for you, olbs oil on a tissue, paracetamol for you. your body will make antibodies against this cold which will pass to your baby. Julie
