it could be something that you've been eating or drinking recently, or he could be teething. For some babies, teething pain is increased while nursing. Or it could simply be that your son is just not hungry right now. But I'm glad to know about the chiropractor myself :) that's a good tidbit to remember.

Quoting Kate:

hi Rose, my 4 month old did this last week so i know how your feeling. Ifollowed all of Chelseas tips and found that bouncing on a fit ball with bub in a sling worked andv having a bath, but cant have a bathevery time 2 days ago i ended up taking her to my chiropractor who is a trained child chiropractor. Now i understand that some people dont believe in chiro for kids but after he saw her she had a huge feed and has been feeding well ever since. Her neck was out quiet a bit which he said is prob from the birth. He didn't crack her back or anything like that just applied pressure to some points to loosen it up. As i said its not for everyone but if your interested i would contact some of the chiros in your area and see if they do babies. Good luck

Chiropractic worked wonders for my daughter who was labeled as having a nursing strike at 3 months old when she wouldn't nurse on the right side.  However, this went on for 3 months until finally a doctor suggested chiropractic and it was amazing!!!!  I'm sorry I didn't think to tell you about this.  Chiropractic also works to get rid of ear infections if you have to fight that battle with your baby.  I'm so glad you were successful.

You can also hand express into his mouth. I did this for about 2 weeks and baby finally came back!

Here are some suggestions from my lactation consultant to help with a nursing strike.

Don't give the baby a bottle only offer the breast (an infant will not starve them-self).

Spend time skin to skin with your infant

Place your babys mouth/face above your nipple on your breast/chest and allow him to find the nipple on his own. This a natural instinct.

Try to nurse your baby while walking/ bouncing.

Take a bath with him and offer the breast (babies are often more relaxed in the water)

Praise him when he nurses

Wear a fun necklace so he an play with it when nursing

Sing to him when he does latch to hold his attention

You can also try nursing in different positions such as laying down, football hold etc.

I hope this helps! Hang in there this will pass!!!!!
