I'm wanting to wean my nearly 13 mos old. But I'm also not sure how committed I am to this either. My eldest is 2.5 yrs and I had to wean her at 13 mos because of her and I being on medication for fighting bronchitis.

I did not realize at the time that my cough drops dried up my milk so weaning was easier than I think this is going to be on my body. I currently nurse her to sleep(1-2 naps & bedtime) once in a while she will insist on a midday feeding, which I do. I figure the way she latches on that she was not getting what she needed from the solids.

The reason I want to wean is my weight is getting out of control and I feel unhealthy. I've heard that if you lose more than a lb a wk that the toxins will get into your milk and can make your baby sick, which is the last thing I want to do.

Is there a mom out there that understands and knows how to do this gently for my body so I don't get engorged, plugged ducts, or stress the baby out?? Please be gentle in your responses. Thank you.

Hi,

Well i'm having same problem. I too want to wean my 10 months baby girl. It's not easy. First i tried not to breastfeed her at all for a whole day. She went mad, i was engorged n dizzy. she just won't sleep.... it was a hell of a day. Now it's even more difficult. She wakes up 4/5 times a night just to be breastfed, else she won't sleep. I tried to give her the bottle at night but she would cry for a whole hour and i being compelled to breastfeed her just to stop the crying. I'm lost too. I really want to keep my baby happy n i really want also to have a sort of rest.
My mum told me to just put some sour or nasty thing on the breast and the baby will get disgusted...haven't try yet....

for my 3 year old daughter, who i was still breastfeeding, my aunt took her for a whole 2 weeks and when she came back she just won't even look at my breast...
Well i really hope we'll soon find a sort of solution
