Has anyone else encountered an inability to lose the last bit of weight while nursing? I had this issue with my first. I did not lose the last 15(?) lbs till I stopped nursing. The same is true now with my 11 month-old still nursing. I know the medical explaination but, I'm curious how many other moms have experienced this. We always hear about how easy it is to lose while bfing but, no one talks about struggling to lose baby weight BECAUSE of bfing.

I am sooo under this category! i am a bfing mom, my son is 3 months. i lost the first 20 lbs. righ away and still have 15 to go! im super healthy, work out regularly, and could not figure out why i was hanging on to the last few lbs. until someone told me some people dont drop it until theyre done bfing.im just sick about this.i was so looking forward to wearing my old clothes and feeling good again! i think we atleast deserve that considering we just carried the baby for 9 mnths right ladies! ive never in my life had a weight issue so i just cant get used to this new body.it doesnt help that every other mom i know is back to theyre pre-preg weight! sooo frusterating! i know bfing is best for my baby so ill just have to stick it out.

I've only been breastfeeding for 3 1/2 months and I still need to lose about 15 to 20lbs to be where i was before getting pregnant! I really want to lose it, but I have also read where you shouldn't lose more than 1 to 2 lbs a week because it can release toxins into your blood and get into your breast milk. I've also read that it can affect your milk supply if you aren't taking in enough calories. I am so concerned about my supply and quality that i am almost afraid to lose weight. And I am left rather confused about it! I feel your pain and frustration.
If anyone has some good information on this subject it would be appreciated... by all of us I'm sure :)

My lil guy is 17 months and I just this week reached my pre-pregnancy weight. I have been jogging and doing yoga 3 days per week and eat around 2000 calories per day. If I eat less my milk supply is low so I have to keep up the cals. It took me 17 months to loose 40lbs which in my book is slow and contrary to what I had read (that bfing would help with loosing the weight quicker). Any way hang in there...it is for the most important purpose and only a small investment of time for your kiddo. There will be plenty of time later for loosing weight :)

Realise this post is 3 years old but I'm definately struggling to loose weight. I got to 11 stone while pregnant and although my body toned up pretty much right away and I was able to get into most pre-pregnancy clothes I'm still 2 stone over what I used to be. I'm still breastfeeding my 3 year old and as much as I'm tempted to stop at times, I dont want to, my son has never been a big eater so whenever he's ill he's always had breastmilk and recently I saw my body gain about 5lbs over the course of 2 weeks while he had chicken pox and was relying on breast milk as his sustenance.
I would love to find a healthy way for this weight to go but I've tried pretty much everything I can to drop the weight, I've detoxed, dropped breads, teas, milks, cheeses, gone raw, exercised to exhaustion by rights I should be a size 8 and 8 stone by now I swear but the most I've been able to drop is about 5 lbs and the moment there's more reliance on breast it goes straight back on.
Also, I kinda know that by now the weight should be gone as I was eating more then I am now at the age of 17 an managed to lose about 4 stone over the course of 2 years ( I was a bit of an overweight teen) It's just so maddening. Tempted to go the docs for tests but I don't want them to simple say stop breast feeding.

The only thing I can do is take homage in the fact my body may not be the slimist but it's certainly healthy and doing a good job.

I held onto 8-10 pounds until after I stopped breastfeeding. Then it came off on it's own.

I have lost 20 pounds since I had my son who is 5 weeks old today. Just keep breastfeeding. Your body uses stored fat to make your breastmilk. Everything should be tightening up for you

I guess I'm a little different, I only gained 25 pounds while pregnant, and within 2 months after giving birth i'd lost 42 pounds. I was overweight to start out with, so I could definitely afford to lose the extra 17 pounds. I've kinda hit a plateau now too. Hopefully after i'm done breastfeeding i'll be able to lose more

I have just started to really get serious about my diet and exercise again (my bub is 11mths and having 4 feeds a day) and I have lost 2 kgs or so in the past month. Its hard going though. it was much easier loosing it pre baby. I have heard many friends say that they lost weight when they finished feeding. My prob is... I am still feeding and will continue until bub says no more, I have 4 more kgs to go to get back to my pre conception weight then hope to get preg again, so may be still feeding... no hope to stop bfeeding and lose the weight easier. Oh well, its worth it for my bub.

Good luck everyone!!

I'm starting to think I might fall under this catagory, that bfing is keeping me from losing. I haven't lost one single lb since my son was born in Sept. I've been eating less carbs, working out on the Wii. I also did a 5 week mommy boot camp. Nothing. So I'm still like almost 70 lbs overweight and totally miserable about it!

Initially after I had my daughter, I lost sooo much weight. 3 weeks after she was born, you coulden't tell I had a baby. But now, she is 11 months old, and I have gained soo much back! It is driving me crazy. Yes, I am always hungry. And if I don't eat to much during the day, I noticed my milk is very low. But then I make up for it, and I have plenty of milk. I drink water all day. It is winter here, and I am inside most of the time. So I know that isn't helping.
My daughter has weaned herself quite a bit, we are down to about 5/6 nursings a day now. I guess when she is done, when? I will hopefully loose the weight then.

Your body keeps the extra weight while breastfeeding so that it has the energy to keep producing milk. I had the last 10 lbs of my pregnancy weight until my daugher was about 4 months then it just started falling off. So I guess I'm on the other side. My daughter is 9 months and I'm trying to gain weight which isn't any easier while breastfeeding.

What's the medical explanation for not loosing weight? I started working out about 1 month ago and I've been breastfeeding for 3 1/2 months and I haven't lost any weight at all since I started working out!!! I'm starting to get a little frustrated! I only drink water and eat pretty healthy but I'm also hungry all the time because of the breastfeeding I'm sure so that doesn't help. I'm in my friends wedding in August and was hoping to loose all the baby weight well before then but now I don't know! My mom said she lost a lot of weight as soon as she stopped breastfeeding me.
