My daughter is almost 8 months old, very successful at breastfeeding. Has had 2 bottom teeth for going on 2 months. Now she has decided the bite HARD every single stinkin time she nurses and she is making me bleed it is so bad. I have tried some tricks I read on here about stopping and restarting etc but this only makes it worse because she thinks it is a game. Anyhoo....since I have had no success finding anything like it online does anyone know about maybe shields to help protect Mommy? The only kind I have found so far are for poor latching??Im trying to tough it out but she has it so bad its getting near impossible and I planned on nursing her for at least a full year :( I know I'm not the only one and I DEFINATLY know I'm not as experienced as some of these Mommys since she is my first :)
Thanks in advance!

I was told as soon as they do it to take them off and tell them "no no that hurts mommy" and sit them somewhere else till they were ready. Just give them a couple of minutes, even if they cry a little. Also make sure not to laugh or do anything to make your little one think that this is a game. Let them know that it hurts you.

Okay, I have a few ideas for you. My son went through a biting stage and i went through some serious counseling with my LLL leader before I got to a point where I was happy. But first, notice when she does it- overly hungry? too tired? is someone else in the room? also, could you be pregnant? my nipples were VERY sensitive when I was nursing him and pregnant (i had a miscarriage, but the nipple pain was there) and he was being normal, my nipples were overly sensitive. Anyway, here are my suggestions.....

- you CAN keep your finger in her mouth while she nurses. Better a finger than a nipple.
- give her leg a swat- you know, it doesn't hurt but stings for a second... this worked for my sister and her son. Didn't work for me. Every kid is different.
- Tell her NO and put her on the floor and walk away. Even for 30 seconds. It'll give you time to cool off and the separation is enough to get the point across that biting mommy is a NoNo.
- Give her something to teeth on before she nurses that's cold. Sometimes they're in pain and need to chomp.
-Lastly, this is what worked for me. When she bites you, pull her into the breast. It'll cut off her air supply just enough so she has to open her mouth. Babies dont like this. I only did it a handful of times. Not to mention if they fall asleep at the breast and you want to de-latch them without waking them up, try this.

Hope this helped!!!

My daughter went through a biting stage but never drew blood,I would stop her feeding ,say no,my face would show her how annoyed i was.She would still try it on from time to time, then she finally stopped all together.I have just stopped feeding her,and she is nearly 3,(i have only been feeding her at night for the last year). If you can continue it will be worth it,but there again if it gets to much you have done 8 months which is wonderful. So what ever the outcome is you have given your little girl a brilliant start. best of luck

Once my daughter did that-I took her-gave her a firm NO-explained that hurst Mommy and no breastfeeding if she's going to bite-she cried for a while and went onto another activity and did not bite again.

I was just about to provide the same advice as Laneya - lay say 'NO!" in a very firm voice and put bub down...my boy did it once to me and I did this to him and he hasn't done it since.

I had two bitters! Both my boys started biting me after they got teeth so I would stop and lay them down at my feet and let them pitch a fit and when they were done crying (somtimes it was a long time) I would pick them back up and start again. I would do it EVERY TIME!  Consistancy is the key! Even if you have to do it a dozen times durning one nursing! It worked for me twice! Good luck!
