How long did it take to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight?

I am the mother of a 4 1/2 month old (born 13 May 2010). She is exclusivly breast fed. I have seen some weight loss since I gave birth to my daughter and am interested how long it has taken everyone to get back to thier pre-pregnancy weights.

My stats are as follows:

Delivery day: 184 lbs
Current weight: 151 lbs
Pre-pregnancy weight: 142 lbs
Ideal (where I want to be): 125 - 130lbs

My son was born on May 3rd and the pregnancy weight was gone within the first 3 weeks. I exclusively breast feed and have done so since he was born.

I gained 12 lbs during the pregnancy. I'm down 20 but that's stalled. Baby is 6 months.

Melissa, thats not true for everyone! I lost 14 lbs more below my pre pregnancy weight while breastfeeding. All my friends who weaned their kids say now they are gaining weight. Breastfeeding helps you loose weight. Not the other way around! Which is nice because if you breastfeed a normal 3 years or so you can't just be content at a heavier weight. It's possible for some, maybe not easy but it happens!

They say you won't lose all your baby weight until you stop breastfeeding but untill then you will slowly lose very little.

I'm glad you posted this, I was wondering about it too! With my first, I lost the weight fast - just a couple months. With my 2nd, it was slower. In fact, I think I never got down to prepregnancy weight after her. Now with my 3rd, I'm wondering how long it'd take, since I put on the least with him.

Delivery day: 196

Prepregnancy: Unsure, at first prenatal appt was 149
Ideal: 135 - 140

What I've been doing is taking advantage of nap time. I make my 3 yr old "rest" in the living room with me, the baby sleeping either in a bouncy chair or pack-n-play, and I use the Wii Fit Plus. Currently, I'm using it for about 22 minutes, doing yoga, strength training and cardio. I'll increase time each week. I've also set up some eating goals or guidelines, since I have a tendancy to overeat and eat when bored/lonely/depressed. And I always remind myself that the little guy is ONLY 8 weeks old AND it took 9 months to put the weight on.

I exclusively breastfeed, I pump, and I have other children to chase (because I also do daycare out of my home), so I hope that my consistancy will pay off.

I agree that everyone is different. You do still need to eat healthy and get some exercise when you can. I weighed around 150 lbs when my daughter was born. I lost it all except the last 10 lbs within two months. Around 4 months PP the weight started falling off at an almost scary rate. I was down to 113 lbs at my lowest point. I had to increase my calories to 2700/day. It was hard to make sure that they were all healthy calories. I'm now back to 120 since my daughter has slowed down BF. Some women don't lose any from just BF, some women lose a lot and some are in between. It sounds like you're on your way just give yourself time. Good luck!

my daughter is ony 3 months old and i know its very discouraging because you want to be back to your "normal" self. i am breastfeeding so i've lost some weight but everyone has told me it does take time and to just be patient and excersise and eat healthy and it will go a lot quicker :)

I was prepregnancy weight two weeks after birth (losing 30 lbs.) to six weeks after birth. I was always hungry and never felt full (they are testing my hormones) and since (my daughter is 5 months) i gained 14 lbs. However this past week I have been exercising and watching my portions and have lost 5 lbs. Therefore I am nine pounds to prepregnancy weight, but still have lots of lbs I need to still loose. Hope this makes since..lol

I gained 42 pounds while pregnant w/ twins and lost 40 w/in 2 weeks of their birth. I gained MAYBE 20 w/ my son and lost it all plus a little w/in a month.

Everyone's metabolism is different. Yes BF burns calories but it also depends on what you are eating, how much u exercise and how fit you were when you got pregnant. I am actually about 7lbs below my prepreg weight. But I was very fit before getting pregnant (5'10 & 136) I lifted 2x wk & ran 2-3x wk. Also after my son was born (now 8.5 months) I had to stop eating dairy, gluten, corn, soy, tomatoes, coconut, wheat...d/t severe allergies (he was popping blood!) so now i eat a paleo type diet, no processed foods and everything is fresh & organic. So you may have to change some things in your diet. I encourage lifting b/c muscle burns more calories & don't stress about getting bulky it's hard to do. I don't have the energy to run any more so I hike with the baby in a backpack. It is great exercise and always great to be outside connecting with nature. But make sure you eat enough, when you exercise you may find yourself even more hungry & that's normal. I eat a lot but it is all fresh wholesome food. Give yourself time and you will get to your ideal weight! :)

I gained about 35 lbs and had little mama at 36 weeks...byt ime she was 3 weeks I had gotten down to 10 lbs lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight...Id on't know how, but I'm still maintaining like 108 and I haven't been that size in like 4 years

Cardio can be going for a brisk walk, watching tv and walking on the spot, just stay moving for 40mins a day. You can even start off lighter at first maybe doing 20mins and core training every other day. It will take a month to start to see results but you will be pleased.

My son is 9mths old in a few days and I'm finally at my pre preggo weight.
I was 134, 2 days before I delivered.
Currant weight is 116lbs
and my pre pregnancy weight was in between 110-115.

I do cardio and strength training every day, Try core training, you can find a lot it on the internet. Do some every day, and about 40mins of cardio. It will help a lot. I'm sure if I would have started doing that earlier I would have lost it. I eat a lot of whole grain food as well. Seems to keep me full longer.

I was 108 lbs pre pregnancy Delivery weight 140 lbs It took me 2 weeks to get to 120 lbs another 3 weeks to get to 115 and I got stuck on this for a while. I am 104 lbs now and I achieved that weight when my son was 5.5 months. I'm BF exclusively too

dont hate me! Im sorry i am not 'normal' about weight gain etc, but just know that now my dr is scaring me about how im not giving my baby enough nutrients if i dont gain more weight so im stressing about having to make myself gain more....... no one has it easy, either side. just different pluses and minuses i guess :)

ok i started at

delivered at

and was 120 by 6 months postpardum
and by 1 year later i was 110lbs
now im pregnant again and nursing still and im starting at
110lbs so i hope to gain better then the 1st time.
i do no real exercise, i walked alot in the first 6 months as it was summerish then but other then that i just am not a gainer, i have issues gaining enough.

my son is 10 months old, and i'm still about 5 pounds above my pre pregnancy weight...i'll be honest, though, i haven't been doing much besides breastfeeding to get rid of it :/

i gained 40 pounds while pregnant, and i lost 30 of those within the first 2 months. since then, i've been pretty much at a stand still, until maybe 2 weeks ago, i noticed i've dropped a couple more pounds. once i get to pre preggo weight, i still need to lose another 40lbs to be where i want :-/

my sister in law gained 30 pounds while preggo, she just had her son on august 9th and shes already a couple pounds lighter than when she got pregnant (bitch! :P) just from breastfeeding.

My daughter was born March 7th.she is breast fed as well but is now eating solids too.



I weighed 203 on delivery day,

current weight 176

pre pregnancy weight: 168

where i want to be is 145.



I know they say it takes time. there are some of my friends that weigh less now then before they had a child. everyone is different. Im gonna pick up an exercise routine i think that may be the only way I can get to where i want to be. Good luck on getting to where you want to be. Just remember everyone is different on how they lose their weight. walking and running go a long way

I gained 55 pounds while I was pregnant. My baby is 4 months and I have 12 to go. Everybody says it takes time...ugh
