hi i BF my son for 2 years and had no period for another years after i stoped BF and then when i had my daughter i BF her for a year and i had a period after about a year after stopping again but in all depends on you body for when i will have your periods but if ur that worried about it just ask ur health visitor or talk to ur doctor about it.

I am not sure, but I think I am starting to get my period and my baby is 4 months. She started sleeping through the night at 2 months and that is why it is coming back so soon. I was going to feed her during the night for as long as possible so I wouldn't have to mess with birth control but I'd rather sleep!

I am still currently breastfeeding and I got my first period about 2 weeks before my daughter turned 1 yr and yet its been well over a month now (closer to 2 months) and still no period again? So hope this helps Congrats on yoru breastfeeding and best of luck god bless ox

I must say I feel a lot better reading some of these responses.. My baby is 2 and a half months old and I just got my period back.. I was pretty bummed out when it happened cuz I was thinkin that as long as I breastfed it wouldn't come back, but after reading some of these responses and seeing that I wasn't the only one, I feel much better! Altho it does suck having it lol. All u moms out there that didn't get it the whole time u breatfed, ur super lucky!! :) Also, I feel a lot better reading that one response a lil up that said ur milk supply decreased a lil once u were on ur period, becuz mine did too.. Its just good to kno I'm not alone!! :)

I must say it was really nice not having mine for so long, but then again A BIG surprise also!
I bled for 6 weeks after delivery and then didn't have a period for a whole 26 months. HOWEVER 13 of those 28 months were spent pregnant and nursing another child. My boys are 20 months apart, and I never got a period from the time my first was born and i was nursing him yet, I still conceived at about 11 months after delivery. I then nursed my second for 4 months before he decided on his own that wasn't for him and we had to go to a bottle. About two months after we switched to a bottle I started back into a normal cycle.
So FYI for all you moms out there thinking breastfeeding is a good form of birthcontrol because you no longer have a period.....nope, you might want to cover yourself just in case unless you are wanting to take the chance of another one pretty close in age to your first =0)
By the way at 15 months I was so ready to wean my first and he just wouldn't give in, but as my pregnancy progressed my doctor told me the flavor of my milk would change, and might help me in the weaning process. No kidding being pregnant is what helped me to finally completely wean my son at 16 months.

obviously everyone is different but with all 3 of mine, i got it back 1 week before they turned 2 months.... i was very disappointed to say the least. Especially when I was feeding them every 2 to 3 hours and not supplementing!

6 months. i think its because she started eating solids at 5 months, so my milk supply went down a bit.

A lactation consultant told me that you can expect your supply to drop a bit during your period, but that it should return to normal after it is over.  I find this to be true for me.

I got my periods when he urned six months old - tied in with him starting solids and so breastfeeding less. Periods went straight to every 28 days and 6 days long... Gutted!!

theres no actual time that you get your period. Its just your body.
I actually just got my period today and my baby is 6 months old. so it just shows how soon you can get it! and he still nurses every 3 hours...

as long as i was feeding him i did not have a period, it wast untill around 7 months when he started to ween that i began spotting and eventually by 9 months that lovely time of the month was back,,,3 months later i was pregnant again! lol

As long as I was breastfeeding I did not have a period, even when I was only giving them the breast once a day. It took a month after I had stopped before my period started.

I had my periods start roughly a month after each of my first two kids were born... and then was blissfully period-free for 9-10 month with my third. Each of my kids were nursed for at least 2 years (the last for 3).

Each birth and postpartum was different for me in the length before I got my period. Everyone is different. be very careful make sure you are using protection cause you still can produce and egg. I have many friends that had no period the whole time they were breastfeeding only to find out that they were pregnant.

I wish I could say I had that kind of MIA time from Aunt Flow. I have been on a 44ish day cycle since I gave birth to my daughter. And I exclusively breastfeed and I am not on birth control.

Yes you're fine!! Some women get them & other's don't. If you're on birth control you are more likely to have one b/c of the hormones. If you're not on birth control, you're still just fine! Just remember that b/c you are getting your periods you can get preg, even though you're breastfeeding!

Breastfeeding is not a guarenteed method of contraception you can get pregnant before you get your first period.

you can go without a period for almost a year if you brestfeed only....plus it helps take the weight off that you gained

With my first I got my periods right away but that may be due to having the depo shot right away. With my Son I just got my first period at when he turned 10 months. My period was heavy and I had no cramps so i did not know I was getting it. But I did feel as though I was going to get it soon as a week before I felt bloated. I also found that my breastmilk diminshed by 2-4oz.

my little one is almost 7 months old now and im just starting to get some spotting now, i also think that people who are close can affect another.... a few of the girls i used to work with all fell into the same cycle. Im just getting mine now as is one of the other mums in mums group.... My little boy has been unwell and off his feeds lately and i wondered if mine started up again as i was producing less milk...
Any thoughts ladies?

I had no time off. I bled for six weeks after my son was born, then had break through bleeding every other week for two months before my periods returned to normal. I always heard that breastfeeding would stop your periods, but it didn't help me!

With my son it came back at 6 months. My daughter is almost 9 months and no signs of it yet. Both breastfed. It's nice while it lasts.

i didn't get my first period until my son was 9 months old. it was wonderful. i'm pretty regular now, but at least it is a lot lighter and shorter than my original cycles!! i love it!! went from 8 days to 4...it's great!!

I did not get my first period until 6 weeks after my son completely weaned. He weaned when he was 13 months old.
