how long should a 12 week old go without being fed?

ok so I decided to switch my daughters feeding pattern so she would sleep better at night....before she would only feed off of one breast and be done. But now I feed her both breasts (burping in between) and she will go from 9pm till 5am till she wakes up to be changed and fed. Is that too long of a wait for a almost 3 month old??

Thank you all for your encouraging words of wisdom! I will continue her new schedule cuz I think she likes it :) And change it up when she wants to change it. Thank you everyone! :)

My little girl is the same age and she is sleeping through the night also and she is a healthy rolly polly little girl. I am also having problems with her not taking the bottle and I was really worried about her going to daycare and having her not eat all day long but I was reassured by her doctor that it will not hurt her to not eat all day until I pick her up. She may be cranky but it will not hurt her. I started back to work yesterday and she did not eat much during the day but she was pretty happy all day also so I worried for nothing. She did eat a lot last night though. My point is that her doctor said she won't hurt herself by not eating for long periods and as long as you baby is gaining weight you should be good to go. :) Enjoy the sleep.

I think it depends on your baby. If she is gaining weight and is happy then don't worry, she can start to make her own schedule. But any concerns should be taken up with your doctor. My 6 and a half month old still wakes once a night for a feeding and that's good for her. I never liked the idea of imposing a schedule on her, if she wakes up; it means she needs to wake up! I did the same thing, my daughter started to get fussy every couple of hours so I started feeding her both breasts, just like you, and she naturally went longer in between. They will eat until they are full, and tell you when they are hungry. My daughter wakes up once a night, usually around 3am, and eats every 3 hours during the day. Enjoy the sleep!

My little one did that as well. But I introduced a "dreamfeed" at 12 weeks as she was sleeping from 4pm until 1am, then 4 and 7am. When i picked her up at 10:30pm to feed she would sleep until 5pm. Eventually she dragged out until 9am. I stopped the dreamfeed and at 22 weeks she would sleep through from 7pm until 7am. Good luck

My daughter started her own pattern, very similar to yours. She began cluster feeding on her own at around 9 weeks, and that's when she started sleeping longer. She typically feeds from 5pm until 9pm (almost constantly), and sleeps for around 9 hours. Lately she's been a little off due to a case of the croup, but still sleeps for a long time at night. I mentioned it to her doctor and he said it was fine, as long as she's gaining enough and having wet/dirty diapers.
